| 11014 | Racer | games | -1 | Nice looks but... | Pros:

+ good looking graphics (actually, graphics look amazing)
+ quite good physics
+ lots of good cars and tracks

Cons:

- not open source (no debs, rpms I'm afraid)
- source code is a mess to compile (never heard of autoconf?)
- uses proprietary library (fmod) - boo to that!
- nvidia-only binary (what kind of joke is this, never heard that opengl is a standard?)
- development is slow due to license restrictions
- CaSe iNsenSiTiviTy problems with add-on cars and tracks | 2003-05-04 03:02:21 | 0 |

| 11016 | noeGNUd | games | 7456 | Very good idea with 3D | This is very good idea, but the name of this game is very difficult to remember. I would like change this name to more atrractive. | 2003-05-04 03:10:39 | 0 |

| 11018 | Racer | games | -1 | Including Racer in Linux dists | Racer's "license" says:

"Distributions on Linux distributions (as is done on SuSE8.0 for example) IS however allowed."

This, however, is not enough. Debian for sure can never include Racer because the license must not be OS specific.

Racer's license is very ankward and I believe GPL would serve the needs of the author much better. As many have already suggested, the author could dual-license the game and would still get his precious money if someone wants to buy the engine (and the users would get the freedom they deserve). But no, the author seems to have either something against GPL or he is misunderstanding it big time. It is a shame, really.

In the meantime, while the author is waiting to do the right thing, you should perhaps try Torcs (http://torcs.sourceforge.net/) which will eventually beat Racer in every aspect (unless, of course, Racer gets GPL'ed). Oh yeah, Torcs is under GPL. | 2003-05-04 05:32:04 | 0 |
| 11019 | Quiet Console Town | games | 6801 | A small suggestion | Great start! I have one suggestion. When you play for a long time you forget what building has been upgraded to what.. If there was an option to check what the building is upgraded to and who is in the building it would make things a lot simpler. | 2003-05-04 05:56:45 | 0 |

| 11023 | Quiet Console Town | games | -1 | It's pychecker. | pychecker -- don't write python without it.
Doesn't catch all the bugs that a compiler's analysis will, but a very good number of them -- and coupled with a good test suite, 'twill give you all you need to enjoy Python's amazing rapid development time and terse syntax without those annoying bugs poking up at runtime. | 2003-05-04 07:16:13 | 10994 |
