10954 Racer games -1 Racer and GPL yet again Anyone who wonders why people complain about Racer not being under GPL I suggest pointing your browser to http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/philosophy.html and reading what they have to say about free software. There are many interesting and reasonable points indeed and perhaps it helps to clear out the misunderstandings some people have concerning the GPL.

Basicly, Racer is a nice, "free as in beer" game, with good looking graphics etc. but this is only other side of the coin and this is where our roads separate: some people think it is perfectly OK to use, and most of all support non-free software, while others don't want to do that nor do they want anyone else doing that because it threatens the free software community.

People often claim that these free software enthusiasts are not being practical. Well, perhaps their life is bit more complicated but do you think Richard Stallman and GNU project would have get anything done if they would have used non-free software here and there, thus wasting their time for something they don't have rights to.

The author of Racer is perfectly free to do anything he wants, but people, believe me, no, believe Richard Stallman when he says, or indicates that it is a waste of time and morally incorrect to support non-free software.

OK, if you want to be "practical" and use and support non-free software just don't expect that to help the free software community to bring you more freedom and good software. I see that more as an attack against the community.

Luckily there is an alternative: http://torcs.sourceforge.net/ Take a look and you'll soon realise which game is better, and which one will stay free when the other dies. And oh yeah: you do not have to wait for a year to get a new version! 2003-05-02 01:42:49 0

10958 A Tale in the Desert games 4425 excellent I cancelled my subscription of Anarchy Online today. :-) This game is amazing. I've been waiting for this for a long time. Build don't kill! Love it. Everything you do leaves a mark in the world. Both short term and long term goals are obvious and fun. 2003-05-02 04:14:37 0
10959 SpaceTripper games 7479 good one If you like side-scrolling shooters, this one is definitly a must! Very good graphics, fitting sound and a lot of fun.
