Hex! | games | -1 | Go universal! | This is a simple enough game to make playable in Java or PHP right from the web - not necessarily two players, but human versus computer. Good progress with the graphics, but why limit yourself to Linux? Go for the universal scripting! | 2003-04-30 20:27:20 | 0
NVIDIA Linux Display Driver | games | -1 | Re: "License: free" ??? | Its interesting when a company goes out of its way to support Linux, but has to avoid releasing possible trade secrets or whatnot and makes something closed source. There is always this group of Linux users who go all up in arms about closed source this and evil that, when all that the company is trying to do is to support the "underdog". I mean think about it! How much does nVidia depend on Linux? How much percent of their total income comes from people buying cards to use under Linux? They are supporting something that's probably less than .001% of their business, and they're doing a pretty damn good job at it. My box in Linux constantly outperforms Win2k pro running on the same hardware. <p> So yes, lets start biting at all the companies who decide to offer something to Linux. Lets go bomb nVidia's headquarters and force them to stop making drivers for us. I'm sure that'll fix everything wrong with the world. <p> Oh, and as a side note, you can still support Open Source drivers for nVidia hardware while owning the hardware and even using nVidia's drivers :-) | 2003-04-30 23:01:28 | 10852

Small Precludes | games | 2328 | Woohoo! | Coolness and niftitude! This is very fun to watch, indeed! Even without music, it's darn fun! I kinda miss the days of people making demos, just for the sake of having something cool to look at and listen to music by. It'd be really nifty to see that come back, in this manner. Hmmm...maybe I should get coding! :-)<BR> <BR> What might be cool, though (tell me if this is crazy) is to make some of these demos, like the whirling amphitheater thing or the medusa fractal, into XMMS visualization plugins! Imagine seeing those thingies groove and gyrate to the beat of the music...<br> <br> Of course, I haven't done much with OpenGL, and know nothing about the XMMS plugin API, so for all I know, this could be unworkable. | 2003-04-30 23:12:15 | 0
Small Precludes | games | -1 | Small Precludes | This is pretty sweet. Relaxing and stuff. One feature request, though: fullscreen mode. Switching resolutions manually and centering the window works, but its not as convenient. | 2003-04-30 23:24:57 | 0
Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory | games | 7835 | Re: Uncontrollable | i also have winmodem and using ltmodem-8.26a9 driver I have no major problems playing this game on 48000 connection. Really big factors affecting lag in my opinion is number of players. When I play games 4 on 4 I have very enjoyable experience with ping around 200-300. True, I can't snipe very effectively, but playing as medic or engineer is no problem. <p> my only annoyance is bloody sound chopping really bad!!! starts at the menu and never stops until I quit OR switch to different console. <p> WHAT IS UP WITH THAT?!?!? | 2003-05-01 00:06:36 | 10913
Unreal Tournament 2003 | games | 5432 | Re: Problems with patch | Did you by chance install Epic's Bonus Pack One? This package also contains a System/Setup.int, which overwrites UT's original file if you don't take care (me, I first unzipped the bonus pack into a separate directory, and then moved it over to the UT dir, answering "no" to all "file exists - overwrite?" questions). The bonus pack's Setup.int file size is 2888 bytes, UT's original file is 8847 bytes. | 2003-05-01 00:44:32 | 10827
Small Precludes | games | 6457 | Good, must see | First scene is boring and broken (flashing), so don't quit too early. Second and third scenes are very nice, and fun to watch. Fourth starts bad, but ends nice. Overall - it's real code by real demoscene coder, you should watch whole show. And it's Open Source! | 2003-05-01 01:35:07 | 0
Small Precludes | games | -1 | Re: Woohoo! | well, demoscene is alive and there's even a bit of it on linux. look at http://www.scene.org/, http://www.lnxscene.org/, http://www.kameli.net/unixscene/ and http://www.pouet.net/. | 2003-05-01 02:23:51 | 10921
Small Precludes | games | 6998 | Nice, but | These demos are really good, and although I know a fair bit about OpenGL myself I doubt that I could come up with anything nice in a reasonable time (let's say... less than 6 months straight).<BR> And although I really like sitting back and watching demos I doubt that there are many people out there feeling the same.<BR> After all, the most successful commercial games ARE First Person Shooters *shrug*.<BR> <BR> Nonetheless, GOOD WORK!<BR> | 2003-05-01 04:33:52 | 0
