3660 | news | -1 | vector based drawing | Vector graphics under UNIX is mostly done in xfig. I estimate that xfig is almost as old as X11 itself, but it does a good job. I created my entry for the contest in xfig. Bram Stolk | 2003-04-28 12:28:26 | 10780
3655 | news | -1 | An interesting idea | Someone cracked a joke about creating a game where you can comply terrorist missions. It sounds funny but to play a mindgame: At first you get an introduction how to handle the game controls, the best place for this is a terrorist camp of 'al quaida' in the desert of afghanistan. Then you can fullfill historic missions like the bombing of the us embassy in kenia etc. The top mission is to fly by plane into the twin towers. Not alone the economic part of the game - there you have to learn and fullfill filthy economic practises - that what you cannot learn by the neat business games for education in puplic schools. Overmore you can integrate a game like Sims in which you has to deal with politicians and big CEOs around the world and get aquainted with `networking` of the worst sort. By the multiplayer mode you are able to use different characters like the forgotten poor of the world aka terrorists, the greedy business man, the hipocritical politician using fear for the improvement of their power etc.. These charakters have to work together against the harmless rest of the world represented by bots with a plain Artificial Intelligence. But without a emotional plot the game wouldn't be thrilling enough. My suggestion for the beginning is to introduce the main character as a palestinian boy which lost his parents by an assault of Israel. After he had to learn that there is no justice for people without money he will step into a career as terrorist. So I think when American Army is possible, so such a game should be an interesting project as well, or vice versa if the terrorist game should be sacrilege, the 'American Army' should be treated as a sacrilege too. | 2003-04-28 12:53:51 | 0
Freedroid RPG | games | 5085 | Re: subject | well honestly i think (like you) that such a system would interfere with the story, but i like an idea where you take the spare parts you manage to find on the corpses (i dont know a better word) of the other bots and either build some items from them, or sell them to be able to get the parts for you, maybe having the higher power weapons do more damage to the spare parts would be a good idea, then it takes more to repair them to build something, and they wouldn't sell for as much. just my 2 cents | 2003-04-28 13:50:56 | 10362
Majesty | games | 7784 | Smooth and pretty | The artwork in this game looks like it was crafted with a good deal of care. The animations are smooth and quick, and the colors are pleasing to the eye. I found the gameplay to be a bit unsatisfying, partly because your control over your soldiers is extremely limited. The only tactical decisions I found myself making were when to save up gold and where to put my shiny new wizard's guild. I think the "reward" based control is a neat concept, but I think it would probably need massive line battles (on the order of hundreds of soldiers) to really be interesting. | 2003-04-28 13:54:48 | 0
Eternal Lands | games | -1 | Re: Hardware Acceleration | Then you don't have the Nvidia drivers installed, so you are getting the MESA OpenGl libraries, which do not have any hardware acceleration for Nvidia. Install the right drivers, and you will get up to 200 FPS, in some areas. | 2003-04-28 14:32:19 | 10816
