| 10763 | Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory | games | -1 | Hmm | Works great on my old man's Windows XP machine, but on my aging machine (which has no problem with RTCW, mind you) it has some issues. First, in Windows (XP pro and 2k Pro) the text is unreadable. But otherwise it runs great. In Linux (Mandrake 9.1... I'm about to delete that and try RedHat 9 just because I feel like it and have too much time to waste :P) the framerate is ungodly slow (RTCW has been slow lately too.. but not to the extent of Enemy Territory.) Some sound problems come with the video lag. But when I had it working on the old man's machine (Athlon 2200+, GeForce 4.. the works) it was one of the most fun games I've ever played. I love all the new weapons. Knowing what a grenade whore I am, I can't get enough of the grenade rifle.. heheh | 2003-04-26 17:39:42 | 0 |

| 10768 | 3660 | news | -1 | This probably counts as trolling, but... | ...how long until we see a press release like the following:

Angry Pixels Source Code Competition
We could just have our programmers write our source code, but we want to involve the community with the project. So, we want you to send us some source code for the project, which, incidentally, is totally top secret, but we can tell you that it doesn't involve a bowl of tapioca.
In two weeks from today, we will put all the applications up for a community vote, and the winner will be used! So get your technical hats on and send your applications to code@angry-pixels.com.

Honestly -- professional game development companies take an absolute minimum of 18 months to produce a decent-quality game, with huge teams of tremendously capable people working full-time (and usually overtime) -- how long is it going to take this team of 8 guys with limited real-world experience, working in their spare time, to finish their mysterious project? And more importantly, are we going to have to keep putting up with these zero-content press releases continuously until they do? | 2003-04-26 22:07:29 | 0 |

| 10770 | Andromeda 9 | games | 6672 | Re: Controls... | Zigakly! As it happens, I tried the game with an analog joystick.

I would have been good if the designers had put both modes: current, and analog absolute directional; into the game. Then I'd give it 4 stars.

What I'd really like is a 'Diablo 2' style item system (random stats'n'all) and a persistent inventory! Now that would rock!
| 2003-04-26 23:48:15 | 10743 |
| 10771 | LadyStar | games | 7894 | Great Potential, and Now a New Engine |
LadyStar is shaping up to be a great game series, and the price ($18 for 52 episodes) is well worth it. Currently, the creators are creating a new engine for the games to make them better with less differences between the various browers. Then again, in a perfect world, all browsers would fully support standards.

The game has nice 3D CG backgrounds, nicer 2D characters, slightly deep yet slowly developing plot, and a simple interface. Recommended.
| 2003-04-27 00:29:52 | 0 |
| 10772 | Celestia | games | -1 | Re: This simulation is not as good as | However, there are two reasons that make your comparison invalid.

Celestia is not, at this point in time, suppose to be a realistic spacecraft/aircraft simulation where you can pilot the craft around wherever with realistic physics. Instead, Celestia is a better Planetarium or "space browser".

The second reason, which is more important. Is that Celestia runs on Windows/Mac/*nix whereas Orbiter runs in Windows only.

If you use Windows and want #1, then by all means use Orbiter because that is what it is suppose to do. But if you just want the browser, Celestia for Windows works very nicely. I've used it under XP and it worked flawlessly. In fact, it ran faster in Windows that it does in Linux -- for me at least. | 2003-04-27 01:01:41 | 10649 |

There are no worthwhile points made at all in your post :)

I'm working on a logo, although I'm a pencil and paper artist and I'll scan it in. Two weeks from the 24th April is the 8th May so there's plenty of time left.

This is a great way to get the Linux community invloved. You will get much more variety in the submissions than from a few in-house artists, and maybe it will uncover some real original talent :D

Regards,
simcon | 2003-04-27 02:44:45 | 10768 |
