10572 Cedega (WineX) games -1 Re: winex3 Thank you for giving yet another reason why WineX will not prevent native ports. It works for me, but I don't consider 5fps on Battlefield to be very playable. Still, hopefully it will run at a decent framerate eventually. 2003-04-20 12:31:28 10570
10573 Cedega (WineX) games -1 Point2Play: Good try... Point2Play is a good idea, though not quite there yet. Here are some thoughts;
The ability to choose a location for the games (like some of the other Wine and WineX GUIs) instead of the user's home directory would be appreciated. (Yep, I know about symlinks though a point and click interface should not require tinkering like that.)
Does anyone know if non-games or unlisted ones work with Point2Play? Whatever I install shows up in the main menu, the files are installed under ~/.point2play, and can be removed from the menu...yet I can't run the program. Before I removed Point2Play and reinstalled WineX3, I checked the individual WineX config file and it mentioned other specific programs. 2003-04-20 12:46:05 0
10574 Cedega (WineX) games -1 Re: winex3 hi.. I must say I agree with this decision wholeheartedly, as while some games play acceptably most games ( I'm seeing 2 out of 10 best ) do not. If my desire is to have working games in linux my money/time is better spent on native games that we all 'know' will work. Dont' be such a casual linux gamer and be all upset about not being able to play game 'x' 'y or 'z'. Play those that work of which there are MANY and many coming including neverwinter nights ( albeit late and no toolset although we are getting one thx to openknights.sourceforge.net ) and soon coming www.s2games.com of 'savage'..many thanks to all companies that care enough to code cross-platform from the beginning... If you goal is to run older games consider using regular wine as many games run fine with it and remember to 'read' the log of the chat held with LGP by going to: http://happypenguin.org/irc/ < search for wineX and you'll get a few answers. owner and see for yourself why winex is not a crediible or desireable alternative for serious linux computing. I express these viewpoints as someone whom cares about linux first 'then' linux games. Linux 'deserves' native binaries not windows layered junk and if we keep using winex what incentive do companies have to give us native support ?. Support native games first as there are many and many more to come,--and remember if you reeeeeeeeeeeeally care about linux....gez man dont buy games in stores that only support the windows OS,--I mean come on people its NOT rocket science. ;-) -==== 2003-04-20 12:49:04 10570
10575 Pingus games 506 Re: a few questions
One way to change the behaviour without breaking anything would be to simply introduce new actions which behave similar to the blocker (aka direct Pingus into the other direction), but aren't resetable or which are resetable.

Anyway, I would invite anybody interested in this discussion to subscribe to the pingus-devel mailinglist and continue there, this placed isn't really meant for that.
2003-04-20 13:10:22 10568
