It should be trivial to supply binaries for the majority of these, with a simple recompile of the code. Maybe, but its a bit suspicious. First, its not a small game, and not something that WineX generally runs well (ie, shooters). Also, it doens't run quite perfectly, but everything it has any sort of trouble with (specifically, the movies, the high color cursor, and scrolling with the mouse in the main galaxy view) have an option to turn them off. Now, the movies and the cursor can be excused since some windows comps have trouble with Bink video and all the dos-based Windowses that I've tried MOO3 on had trouble with the high color cursor, but why have the scrolling configurable? What's more, the features that some windows boxes have problems with are all configurable via the menu, but the scrolling thing is in a config file. Not in a menu or mentioned anywhere, just sitting there nicely in the .ini, waiting. Hidden away for the Linux user? I don't see why a Windows user would want to turn off mouse scrolling. <p>Now, you can say that its all a coincidence, but I think the evidence at least strongly suggests that MOO3 was a game that was made to work on WineX before release. This is the first game I know of that runs near-perfectly (one crash in many many many hours of playing after disabling those three things) right out of the box, with a version of WineX that had been out for months. | 2003-04-19 00:42:17 | 10526 |

We might be seeing more ports as a side effect of testing along with the kudos of doing the port, though with all the complaining that happens on linuxgames and happypenguin it seems like folks are already spoiled. <P>Armchair quarterback comment: The market for Linux games is getting there...it's not there yet though it does attract attention and game developers are getting ready for it.
