Pingus | games | -1 | Re: Source depends on Clanlib? :-( | Pingus releases seem to often rely on odd-ball clanlib releases - this is VERY BAD for people wanting to package for Linux distributions. Please could you look into this? | 2003-04-16 13:55:31 | 10369

Tower Toppler | games | -1 | Re: Nebulus! | In Debian it's called "toppler". Just do an 'apt-get install toppler'. | 2003-04-16 13:57:38 | 10370
PlaneShift | games | -1 | Re: Some additional info | By free I mean free as in speech. You want to protect art work, ok, but this is proprietary. And I'm not saying free = good and proprietary = bad, of course not. It's your choice, and this choice is the proprietary one for the art work. I understand the decison (and even if I didn't you do what you want with your code/art), but understant that when people say "it's non-free / it's proprietary", it doesn't mean that we want more from you, or that we mean you should have made the art work free. See this as a legal information (which I happen to personnally consider very important). I hope you see. To your question "Is this not enough for you?" : don't get me wrong, I say it's proprietary, it doesn't mean I expect you to provide "enough" to the community. Of course you do what you want. It's just about using the correct words to qualify the level of freedom of each component and ot the whole game. | 2003-04-16 14:00:04 | 10401
Tower Toppler | games | 7152 | Nice | Great game. I give it 4 stars because it's not exactly original (it's a remake) and for the ugly sprites. Everything else is real good. Game is just as difficult as I remember. Great job. | 2003-04-16 14:00:44 | 0
PlaneShift | games | -1 | Re: Planeshift License | <i>Artwork is much more delicate than code when dealing with abuses of its redistribution:</i><br><br> No. Lots of Free Softwares are used or reused for things such as creating weapons, etc. But the only way to prevent that is to stop doing free software and choosing proprietary licenses. Both FSF and OSI explain why reuse should be allowed to anyone and for anything. Artwork is no different.<br><br> <i>I wouldn't be very happy if I modeled let's say a character, made it freely available, and then discovered it inside a idiot porn mod of some game. Maybe with my name in the credits.</i><br><br> It's possible for free software licenses to request the removal of the authors'references, or to indicate that it is a modified version, not endorsed by the original author, it can be required to give references to the original work so that people can discover it. That's really a bad argument, I understand your problem but many people have solved it with such requirements. You have chosen the proprietary solution, because you don't want the art work to be free. You say you don't want the success of someone merely cloning your game : that's something free software developers don't care. It's proprietary, it's your choice, ok, just accept we say it is, because as a whole it <i>is</i> non-free (here and everywhere in this post free = free as in speech) | 2003-04-16 14:17:20 | 10399
Pingus | games | 7784 | Very Good So Far | The graphics are good-looking and smooth. I especially like the way it's able to scroll even in windowed mode. The gameplay seems like it could use a little tweaking, but of course that sort of thing takes much time, and I'm sure it'll get better.. it's already quite good as it is. Also, the training levels are just barely enough to whet one's appetite. Hopefully we will soon see many brilliant and devious levels both by the game designers and the community at large. | 2003-04-16 14:35:32 | 0
Pingus | games | -1 | Supreme ! | A lot of good words have already been said but I _must_ say Pingus is too nice and funny !! Graphics is supreme, music too. Pingus is supreme !!!!!!!! | 2003-04-16 15:00:56 | 0
Vega Strike | games | -1 | Vega Strike | Although it lacks polish, it's still very much under development, and it's moving along nicely. I can't get it to work in Linux yet (it won't recognize that I have OpenAL), but in Windows it's now one of my favorite games! It allows more freedom than I've ever had in a game. Fans of Elite should surely check this one out. | 2003-04-16 15:55:10 | 0
PlaneShift | games | -1 | Re: Some additional info | There are many reasons behind the license used and those reasons should be taken into account when judging it. Just review the license on the web site, not the half part posted here. After doing that evaluate what PlaneShift is giving to the OpenSource community and to Linux. Evaluating only the additional things you want it to provide you are judging on the half-empty part of the glass. | 2003-04-16 16:16:49 | 10394
