10311 Freedroid RPG games -1 X Server crash X Servers today are built specifically for a range of graphics adaptors. The problem with this idea is you simply don't know what causes X to crash: videocard driver error, X Window System implementation error; at least I imply the X client does NOT cause the X Server to crash.
The better X Server uses the Framebuffer driver; this way it doesn't access the graphics adapter directly; in turn, the framebuffer service is provided by directfb (www.directfb.org) or one of the various others and this way it is easier to separate driver from X and trace your crashes. As well, a framebuffer driver means you don't need to provide your X server any system configuration options about the video and this greatly improves the ease of a recent user its computer without problems.
Try it some time. There are more X Servers than just XFree86, Xi Graphics, and Metro Link. There are many opensource X Servers that are built to use only framebuffer driver service, and ontop of framebuffer also you can run some applications (such as thos based on GTK+-1 and GTK+-2), lately including the DRI project ontop of framebuffer (only ATI Radeon, drifb.sourceforge.net). Of'course, you need a framebuffer driver for your videocard, and that isn't always available...darn nVidia, darn ATI, darn PowerVR. 2003-04-14 11:22:23 8172
10312 Freedroid RPG games 6077 Re: Looking good Oops, I just discovered some bugs in the current mission file (3 missions only and 2 bugs! :( ). That will be another good reason to release a new version soon... 2003-04-14 11:27:29 8767
10313 FreeCraft games -1 Re: You ruined my productivity!!! Why do you need an SDK since you got the full source? 2003-04-14 12:43:36 9485
10314 BZFlag games 7152 Re: hehe Great game. It's 3D, it's fun, it's multiplayer, it's free!

For a new user, it's a little confusing on what exactly it is that I am seeing, and how the controls work (different to many fps games). My winmodem has such a high ping (around 400ms), that the bzflag server will always kick me off. Dag nabbit! I guess that ain't a problem with bzflag, although the 600ms limit they put on it is a little mean. ;-)

BZFlag is standard issue these days with Linux distributions - this says it all! Good game! 2003-04-14 14:49:26 10284
10315 BFRIS games -1 Not bad, but doesn't run anymore I bought this when it came out, and it was fun for a little while, but I was never able to find any other players on the public server. It had a few problems; first of all, how do you say BFRIS? Beef Riss? It sounds very silly. Since it is binary only and abandonware, there isn't much hope of getting it running on a modern system. IIRC, my next upgrade months after I bought it was enough to make it stop working. Hopefully these guys will release their source so somebody can do something cool with it. It had promise. 2003-04-14 14:50:19 0
10316 D2X games 1923 Re: and descent 1 too! To get rid of the nasty Hall-of-Mirrors effect just remove the descent.pig file from your data directory. Unfortunately that also makes many textures look different and it breaks the mine-exit sequence. Anyway, if you want 100% authentic Descent 1 look&feel you can still play d1x instead. 2003-04-14 15:14:43 10285

10325 Virtual GameBoy Advance games -1 Re: Hohoho It's more or less because of Marat, who for years has been attempting to pawn off inferior emulators for far more than, say..the free, superior ones. In fact if you're looking for a good GBA emulator for Linux, look up VisualBoyAdvance. It's free, and the source is available. That's a -lot- more than you're ever going to get from Marat without a cheque in the mail. 2003-04-14 21:09:21 4683
