| 10236 | FreeDoom | games | 506 | A little late | Doom is already quite a bit outdated, so this set of free data comes a little late, since Quake2 is already free and many years have passed since the release of the source. Anyway the gfx is ok, not as good as the original Doom, but still good. The leveldesign? Well, I only played the first level, but so far it looked far to hard, even on the easy difficulty levels, Doom looked quite a bit more balanced there. Anyway, if you are a Doom fan its worth a look, if not then there might be better stuff to play. | 2003-04-11 16:09:35 | 0 |

I'm having horrible FPS problems with my system (which is identical to your's).

Would you mind posting your kernel .config as well as the list of SDL/GL/GLU-related Debian packages that you're using (as well as any notes on libraries, etc. that you compiled from source) ?

Regards,

D Carney
dfcarney@hotmail.com
| 2003-04-11 16:22:22 | 9905 |
| 10238 | Duke Nukem 3d | games | -1 | Re: Is it working for anyone? | I finally got the game working properly. If you follow the instructions from the cvs site your most of the way there. the parts they dont say is the DUKE3D.GRP should be lower case...duke3d.grp. LOOKUP.DAT is upper....make sure you copy all the files from the testdata dir of the cvs download. the only other part to watch for is in the DUKE3D.CFG...make sure the NumBits is set to 16 (or maybe 8 as someone else pointed out). Thats all ive done and the game runs great now ;) | 2003-04-11 18:33:48 | 10095 |
| 10240 | FreeDoom | games | -1 | Re: A little late | Quake 2 is NOT free. The source has been released but id software still hold copyrights to the game content, ie all the graphics, sounds, etc., therefore the game itself is not free. Freedoom is a free IWAD, which is all the content, with its aim to be a free complete version of Doom - hence the name Freedoom. I think you should get your facts right before posting. | 2003-04-11 23:03:36 | 10236 |
| 10241 | WineX Game Manager | games | -1 | Re: Its Is Free | i think windows under linux can only be a good thing for the linux community. the reason developers make games for windows AFAIK is because of the vast market share M$ enjoys on the desktop market. why spend time making games work for linux if only a small percentage of gamers would use it?

the problem of market share results in many users staying with windows to run apps that only windows can run. programs like exchange/outlook and quickbooks are keeping the pockets of M$ execs stuffed with licensing cash.

if linux can run anything windows can run, however, then users might begin to decide that they don't need to pay the extra money and will begin to move to linux. once enough people have made the switch, the market share scales will tip and developers will begin to look at developing games with linux technologies that are more standardized and native under the linux os. (that's assuming, of course, that these methods would produce better results than winex.)

IMHO the lack of a good directX alternative in linux (besides the directX emulators of course) is another reason game developers are staying with windows. technologies like winex, however, are providing a test bed to see what could be improved to make a better directx under linux, instead of an emulatoin of code written according to the laws of marketing and profit-seeking.

-kuk | 2003-04-11 23:40:24 | 10173 |
| 10242 | Cedega (WineX) | games | 3722 | Slow? My ASS! | I used to think winex was a bad idea, but then I saw Warcraft III running on it. It was fantastic, and everything worked including the cut scenes which is more than I can say for the Linux native client of NWN. I have to say this is an excellent product for gamers and well worth 5 stars. I'd rather user winex than not play the games at all. GREAT WORK! | 2003-04-12 02:10:54 | 0 |
| 10243 | Ultimate Stunts | games | -1 | Great Idea | I was waiting for this so long. We played the original game abut 5 years ago. It is a real cool game and i was hoping that anyone would port it to Linux. Hey and i tell if you didn't start porting i would have it done at my own.

The only thing i can say is
Go Go Go :) | 2003-04-12 02:43:34 | 0 |
