"Come join my team" I will admit that I had the same knee jerk reaction with MY game idea. Had this (what I think is) a great idea and wanted to work with others to implement it. Thing is everyone wants to work on their own designs. | 2003-04-02 08:02:43 | 10032 |

| 10054 | Freeciv | games | -1 | Re: Not as good as people say it is | the map reoriented to be rhombus-shaped instead of changing the map dimensions to facilitate isometric views
The problem here is that, to have both the isometric view and the top-down views use the same map, one map has to be a rhombus. FreeCiv is designed to be multiplayer: When playing the same game, some people may prefer a top-down tileset, and other people may prefer an isometric tileset. FreeCiv originally was designed to use a top-down view, so the isometric view becomes a rhombus.
The other option would be to ask the artists make a new top-down tile set that uses diamond, as opposed to square, tiles.
Of course, it would be nice if there was a server-side option which determined whether the people using a top-down tileset or the people using an isometric tileset get a rhombus-shaped map, but this would be non-trivial to implement.
- Sam Trenholme | 2003-04-02 11:57:03 | 7386 |
| 10056 | XWelltris | games | -1 | well done | quite polished too, easy to install, not easy to play (but, hey, it's a feature!). clean graphics, no rough edges. Real nice linux game... Expecially if you read "how to play" on the website before trying it. :) and... "rotation mode" is crazy! :D I hope main distros to include it by default soon. Really fills a (small) gap in the linux gaming world. Wishes: Some clean and nice sounds. Maybe rip them from quadra (if license allows). IMO music is not needed because this is the sort of game one plays with xmms running :) lale | 2003-04-02 12:50:36 | 0 |

| 10058 | Racer | games | 7130 | Re: Looks great | This would be great! Possibly a dual license could be issued. Feeding back the changes from the open source version to yours. Similar to openoffice/staroffice. Still taking time to make a firm decision on this would not be bad thing. This project continues to increase in profile. Espicially with the racing game starved mac users having a go. So when you feel the time is right do it, get properely slashdotted, and get the cash needed for the source. | 2003-04-02 14:00:08 | 10044 |
| 10059 | Racer | games | -1 | Re: Looks great | Tuxracer has a split now, and they even host the GPL version too. I think that this is very good of them. Could be like Wine vs Winex. How much would you need to GPL to current source? You could then complete close the source of your newer version.

What I'd really like to see, is the game included in Linux dists. Currently, the licensing makes it not viable for many dists. | 2003-04-02 14:40:00 | 10044 |
