9995 3591 news 5676 Re: An RPG with a deep, deep story? What's wrong with Neverwinter Nights? I thought that was an RPG?

Linux currently lacks the following type of games:-
A driving game either GP style or Midtown Madness style.
A military flight sim: aeroplanes or helicopters.
A tank game like M1 Tank Platoon, although I would like to see one based on the superior British Challenger tank ;)
A God game.
Sports of some kind: football (soccer), snowboarding.
3D action/adventure like Tomb Raider or Indiana Jones (more puzzles, less combat).

Of course something original would be nice too, although originality and the Holy Grail are very much related. 2003-04-01 01:33:40 9981
9996 ADIC games 392 Re: Debian Woody version Thanks for your comment. Joysticks are supported. The other points where added to the todo list. (The problem with the keyboard setting is that PC keyboards have trouble with detecting multiple key presses - this is why one must take care choosing the players controls... - of course the best solution would be to allow customization of the controls without source code editing and compilation ;-)
But anyway we need intuitive default settings - feel free the suggest your favourite settings !
My favourite (from old days):
Player 1:
Up: q Down: a Left: o Right: p (non-intuitive I guess ;-)
Player 2:
cursor keys on number block (problematic with laptops)

The current hard-coded settings 2003-04-01 02:10:43 9986

9998 Racer games 6732 Looks great This game looks GREAT but there are lots of things that need to be polished:
- Portability (only Linux - Nvidia binary currently)
- A lot of contributed cars and tracks break because of CaSe SeNsItIvE filenames in Linux, and some of em only work in older versions
- Configuration menus for graphics performance, sound and control methods (text only now)
- Cars falling off the track after a collision
- Segfaults always when exiting (sometimes without switching to previous resolution)
- And a lot of possible additions come to mind: AI, vehicle damage, tire wear, engine overheat, fuel consumption, pit stops, (ABS, traction control :) ...

I think that _some_ source should be made available freely, while mantaining parts of comercial interest binary-nonfree. This would allow the community to fix/improve it faster.
In fact, this way the programmer could focus in interesting (commercial) parts of it and only control the development of the free parts, this possibly leading to the release of a commercial version of the game soon! But at the speed it's being developed now... it can take years...

just my 2 euro cents
2003-04-01 02:31:49 0

10002 Racer games 7130 Re: Looks great Well said indeed. Perhaps a fund could be set up, to pay the author. Say try to raise $10,000 for the full GPLed source. Would be a lovely open source project. Question is this project snazzy enough to warrant that kind of money? I think so. 2003-04-01 03:46:43 9999
