KWappen | games | 5676 | I have a problem | Hi, I installed the mdk9 rpm on my Mandrake 9 box and I got blank graphics tiles. I don't think it knows where the graphics are stored. Have you actually tested the mdk9 rpm or have you just assumed that it would work?<br> <br> I have /usr/local/kde/bin/kwappen<br> and graphics in<br> /usr/local/kde/share/apps/kwappen/pictures<br> <br> Regards,<br> simcon<br> <br> P.S. I usually build the source but you had a mdk9 rpm so I tried it :s | 2003-03-31 12:13:09 | 0
KWappen | games | 5676 | Re: I have a problem | Ok I see you don't have Mandrake 9 :D Well it runs and executes fine but the graphics tiles are blank so therefore you should check your data directory references.<br> <br> Regards,<br> simcon<br> <br> P.S. Please hurry and fix it, it looks great. Anything with a chivalric theme rocks my world (chivalric or chivalrous?) :p | 2003-03-31 12:20:44 | 9963

Racer | games | -1 | Re: GPL is God? | You are, of course, free to do whatever you want with your own creation. However, it seems to me that you are misunderstanding the GPL. As much as many free software people would like to think that commercial products should use the GPL, most do not and will. What this means is that if you put a dual license on your code, GPL and some sort of proprietary license, commercial entities looking to make money from your code will still have to come to you to get the use of the code in a non-GPL product. Meanwhile, open source people are appeased. The fact that the GPL requires modifications to be distributed (if they are redistributed at all) under the GPL protects you from having the code snatched up and used in a commercial product. You said that you want distributions to include Racer anyway. Dual licensing seems like the way to go. However, I'm just giving advice. You can do whatever you like. | 2003-03-31 12:58:20 | 9496
BankiZ! | games | 6063 | Canon Fodder? | Haven't tried the game, but it looks like a clone of the great cannon fodder series. Man, I loved those games.. Gotta try this one out eventually. | 2003-03-31 14:16:50 | 0
BankiZ! | games | -1 | Re: Canon Fodder? | Actually...no. It has nothing to do with Canon Fodder (which is, I agree on that, a very good game). As the post said, it's more like Liero, which itself looks like a real-time Worms(tm) clone. | 2003-03-31 15:32:04 | 9967
Racer | games | -1 | Stunningly beautiful graphics, but..... | 1). Installer?<BR> Where's the installer? Or "make install" even in the binary pack. In the days where Linux was as difficult to install and configure as this game, this all might have been overlooked. But if you really want people to play your game, you need to make it more accessible and user friendly. <BR><BR> 2). Libraries?<BR> The files needed to run this should all be included in the tar file. Both the libfmod and the libXx.... files should be included. ESPECIALLY if they are proprietary (eg: fmod) and cannot be packaged by your Linux dist. <BR><BR> 3). Menu options?<BR> The graphics are the best I've seen in a car racer for Linux, however the lack of configuration via a menu screen is poor. The lack of fullscreen via menu, or setting the graphics level is almost unforgivable. I downloaded and installed the libfmod library to stop the error messages, but get no sound whatsoever in the game. My SB Live is supported in the kernel and all other apps seem to work with no problems. Or does this require ALSA or something? <BR><BR> 4).Support for gamepad/joysticks? <BR> Couldn't see it anywhere either. See note 3. <BR><BR> 5). To be included in Linux dists?<BR> The libraries used to make this game (eg: fmod) and the way you have distributed your source code, make it difficult for Linux dists to include it. Maybe that was your intent? <BR><BR> 6). Releases cycle<BR> It has taken well over a year to go from 0.4.9 to 0.5.0. From www.racer.nl:<BR> <I>24-12-01: Release of v0.4.9! No source code and Linux version yet; they should follow shortly. </I> <BR><BR> Anyways, I won't poison your rating score, by voting for now. | 2003-03-31 16:25:13 | 0
