| 9937 | Neverwinter Nights Client | games | -1 | Re: Neverwinter Nights Client | As I said I suspect that many people keep a windows box purely for playing games - why do they do this - because game companies do not release linux clients, and why do they not release windows clients - because people are keeping windows boxes for playing games. So in a way its self perpetuating. It will only change when the linux community at large says "Ok thats it Im getting rid of my windows box once and for all and wont be buying games without a linux client". | 9938 | Racer | games | 3 | Re: GPL is God? | Hi Ruud,
The concept of "freedom" ought to apply to both gamers and developers, i.e. you can certainly do with your code whatever you are pleased to whithout having to feel like a robber.
I generally prefer open source software but play any game that appeals to me, be it open or closed source, and haven't yet heard complaints about Quake3 not being release under the GPL.
Keep up the great work, cheers. | 2003-03-30 16:55:17 | 9496 |
| 9939 | Racer | games | -1 | Re: GPL is God? | i think this will help you understand:
the linux community, with GNU/RMS freaks aside, dont mind if some programs are commercial. as long as the basic software to have a working system is open source, they dont mind. thats why you dont here people complaining about quake3 or ut2003 or nwn not being gpl, cuz they understand that such things take a LOT of work and are made to make a profit. what really gets them tho is free in price but not free in freedom software. they think: if you can release it for no cost, why in the great depths can you not release the source?! to us, it really makes no sense to do that. it only makes sense to do comercial for sale software, or free gpl software.

so if you want to make money from the game, do exclusivly that. if you want to let peole have it for free, gpl it. other people will NOT be able to make money off it any more than you (they would be able to offer a boxed set or something for people) but they wouldnt be able to modify it and not release those changes under the gpl. once gpl, always gpl.

mans, thats quite an essay. sry, i usually dont write so much. hope you got my point. | 2003-03-30 17:33:20 | 9496 |

| 9943 | Racer | games | -1 | wahoooo ;) | finally.. a new version even for linux. was worth waiting for it. one of the most addicting games on linux for me. thanx a lot to ruud !!! downloaded the data and the binary, but having a problem under mandrake 9.0 with a missing file called "libXxf86vm.so.1". this file isn't provided by mandrake. seems only by suse. figured out that XFree86-compat-libs.rpm (for suse) has this file included, but seems no way to get this single rpm. oh wee.. has anyone a hint where to get this missing file?? please.. | 2003-03-30 18:52:59 | 0 |

| 9945 | Generic Collectible Card Game | games | 7784 | high quality entertainment | This is a very solid implementation of trading card games. Quite addictive. Its interface could use some improvement, but the author is constantly improving it. Also worth a look is the scripting language; it looks like over half the game is written in a language of the author's invention. | 2003-03-30 19:42:46 | 0 |
| 9946 | Neverwinter Nights Client | games | -1 | Re: I like it | oh thats such nonsense you simply dont know what your talking about..I am a game developer and we're doing a huge epic RPG using most open soruce tools and a open source scene graph and its going to be completely cross platform as in lin/mac/win..so if 'I' can do it so can the larger companies..I have a desire to do so to support linux...in time all other companies will follow as we continue to achieve hardware support, easier desktop use/integration to attract cindy homemaker and the growing list of software is already there for most any need. cya -=== | 2003-03-30 22:39:03 | 9919 |

| 9948 | Racer | games | -1 | Re: The Racer problem | This argument about the Qt licensing discussion is simply not true. Distributions had it on their CDs long before Qt was GPLed. Only Debian objected, which is just fine for me. Don't place FUD please if you do not know what you are talking.

--Stefan | 2003-03-30 23:33:30 | 6264 |
