| 9748 | Neverwinter Nights Client | games | 7749 | Re: Neverwinter Nights Client | Um, as I was saying, can't wait to fire this up on my Athlon 1600+ and NForce box, running Debian/testing! Nice in a way that it took so long for the Linux client to come out. Now my "old" machine is plenty powerful for this power hog of a game! :-> | 2003-03-22 19:12:06 | 9747 |
| 9749 | Neverwinter Nights Client | games | 7749 | used copies? | Incidentally, since the game *has* been out so long, are there many relatively-cheap used copies available? I'm in Western Canada, but I'll order from the U.S. if necessary. :-)
(And could this be another advantage to BioWare taking so long with the Linux client...?) | 2003-03-22 19:15:30 | 0 |

The X11 compiled version used to create a window with the necessary dimensions for the relevant game i.e. MrDo! is 240x192, but xmame.x11 creates a 640x480 window for everything! >3. The graphics are now scaled to fit the X11 640x480 window, as opposed to proper pixel for pixel dimensions resulting in ugly blurring reminiscent of first generation LCD monitors.

Xmame recently changed its makefile to build in Xv support by default. Try passing the argument -noxv to xmame. | 2003-03-22 21:40:27 | 9609 |
| 9751 | Neverwinter Nights Client | games | 6013 | Outperforms Windows Client | Hands down outperforms the Windows client. This is the same computer system dual booted of course. ;-) Still the Linux client even being in beta speaks volumes as to how well Linux performs. | 2003-03-23 00:19:17 | 0 |
| 9752 | Neverwinter Nights Client | games | 6651 | Re: used copies? | I snagged a copy of the Collector's Editon "New In Box" on Ebay for like $32USD. Seemed like a good enough deal for me. Since the data will be available for download at some point all you really need is the book with the cd key. The new Beta2 is dynamically linked vs SDL while beta1 was static. Thats the main difference. Works good for me. You need a nVidia card, set Option "NVAgp" 1, and X at 24bpp. You do need a pretty high horsepower system. I'm using Athlon XP2400+ / GeForce4MX-440SE and I find it peaks out for me at about 1024x768 with ultimate quality and fullscreen antialiasing, yet is still snappy with a good steady framerate.
