Racer games -1 GPL is God? It's weird how much resistance people can have against a piece of free software. I created some fun project, uploaded it for people to play with, and then suddenly I'm taking away other people's freedom?! Anyway, not all I do for Racer can be just GPL'ed; there's some proprietary code right now that deals with commercially controlling high-end equipment. That's where I intend to make money; if the game is used in a commercial environment and people are making money out of that, I feel that I am entitled to a little part of that. Would a GPL license enable that? Or does a GPL-license mean somebody can run it in a commercial environment and make money of it? The license talks about copying, modifying, source code and all, but nothing about executing the program. I assume you can. It's probably easiest to just forget about the source code and upload binaries; freely copyable. I am seriously considering releasing v0.5.0 under GPL, then after that, never again. The source code is a hassle to get working for every platform, and I only get boycot-like claims in return since it doesn't have a GPL stamp on it. Free software then gets a real nasty taste in my view, if something's for free but not on 'their' terms, so 'don't ever use it'. Ah well, I guess that's just the way the free software world works. I just want to let people in on the source code, since that can be informative, but on the other hand if people want to use it and make money of it, I want a little piece. It's just money from people making more money of it, which is justified IMHO. And leave the core version for free for all gamers out there. I don't see how it's unfair if people play with it, create a car or track for it, have fun doing that, when I can never take the download of their harddisk. I don't feel responsible for the time that others decide to put in my project. You have the freedom to decide for yourself. I'll stop the rant. The one thing about Internet is that you find out there are a LOT of different opinions. ;) I don't intend to rip off Racer users, but I do intend to make money of commercial exploitations off it. I don't find that unethical or anything, just trying to make a living in an honest way. If you do find it unethical, then please stay away from Racer; I wouldn't want you to have the pleasure running it anyway. But then, you had the freedom to download it and keep it on your HD forever, did you not? I surely didn't cage you in. Ruud [programmer of Racer] PS Linux distributors are welcome to distribute Racer. 2003-03-14 10:14:21 0

I know hardware-accelerated openGL works on those two platforms by means of Matrox G200, ATI Rage (& Rage Pro), and Voodoo2.<p> Anyone tried it or is i tied into some X86 Assembler?<p> Yay Icculus, your my gayest hero. 2003-03-14 11:25:52 0
PizzaBoy! games 4378 Its a good game. It is a good game, but a fullscreen option is needed. Also, the keys don't always seem to respond. J. 2003-03-14 11:53:03 0
Serious Sam: The Second Encounter games -1 Doesn't work On RedHat 7.3, latest nVidia drivers. It tries to load all the game data and then crashes to desktop, completely stealing mouse focus and forcing me to reboot. Don't use, on pain of rebooting. 2003-03-14 13:32:48 0

MAMECAT games -1 Re: Qt problem. First of all: <p> Please send your questions and comments regarding QMamecat to <a href="mailto:mamecat@umrk.dyndns.org">mamecat@umrk.dyndns.org</a> ! We normally don't recognize other forums... this time it's been a coincidence :). <p> Regarding your question/problem (short answer): <p> Well, you CAN use Qt 3.0.5 with qmamecat-0.44.b46, the only problem is that the layout of the new MAME options dialog doesn't work exactly as with Qt 3.1.x and sometimes looks ugly, but it _basically_ works. Using Qt 3.1.0 or above fixes this and so we still recommend to use 3.1.x (3.1.2 is current, btw). The <a href="http://umrk.dyndns.org/modules.php?op=modload&name=FAQ&file=index&myfaq=yes&id_cat=3&categories=QMamecat">QMamecat FAQ</a> contains a detailed description for how to install two Qt releases is parallel ! <p> Regarding your specific problem: <p> I bet you have the multi-threaded Qt library installed, which is called libqt-mt.so in contrast to libqt.so, as for the single-threaded version. Either rebuild QMamecat with <pre># gmake QT_MT=1</pre> (I'd recommend a "gmake clean" before) <br> or symbolically link your multi-threaded Qt library to "fake" the existence of the other version (believe me, it works fine :): <pre># ln -s /usr/lib/qt3/lib/libqt-mt.so /usr/lib/qt3/lib/libqt.so</pre> Then try again. <p> Hope this helps, <p> The QMamecat-Team 2003-03-14 13:41:52 9361
Serious Sam: The Second Encounter games 6456 Re: Doesn't work Tried it with AGP off? Unreal Tournament would regularly lock up for me until I switched AGP off(Nvidia drivers too). 2003-03-14 13:46:56 9499
Serious Sam: The Second Encounter games -1 Re: Doesn't work You can easily hit ctrl-alt-backspace to kill X11, and then restart it from the console to avoid rebooting. If that doesn't work, you can hit ctrl-alt-f7. This gives you another tty console, and you can kill the offending processes that way, then restart X. I had to do this a lot because of some AGPGart settings that the nVidia drivers did not like. 2003-03-14 13:49:15 9499
Rocks 'n' Diamonds games 6456 Impossible Levels(version 2.1.1) Some levels are a bit buggy and can't be beaten yet(as of version 2.1.1 anyway). You can bypass impossible levels by going to Setup, then Game Settings, and switching Handicap off. After that you can play whatever levels you like. 2003-03-14 13:56:39 0
NetHack games -1 Re: nethack Actually, Nethack has no graphics at all. If you were to try the ports that these people mention, you would find a version with graphics, but rather crappy graphics at that. The only port of nethack that is actually a graphics intensive version is Falcon's Eye. In all honesty, however, none of the graphics ports add anything at all to the game, and I see no reason to use them. 2003-03-14 14:22:53 9211
