9256 3507 news -1 Re: Not to dis a tremendous effort...but you can say the same thing about porting!

Why yes, you're right. It took months before I could play UT2003 natively. Oh wait... 2003-03-04 17:27:16 9243
9257 3507 news -1 Re: Not to dis a tremendous effort...but If LGP sat there and created games from scratch, then they wouldn't be a porting/publishing house, would they? And you didn't bother asking them if they WOULD create games themselves... And no matter how you look at it, one game is easier and faster to port than to make from scratch. Do you know FOR SURE that LGP won't make original games themselves, once things start to take off? No, you don't. Why don't you email them and voice your concerns instead of bitching publicly on message boards? 2003-03-04 17:30:40 9243
9259 3507 news 7142 Re: Not to dis a tremendous effort...but Go to www.transgaming.com and search for games that run natively on Linux, you'll see some like Pontifex 2 listed (perhaps by someone who didn't know about a Linux version?). But these need to be taken care of... Plus I also see WineX as a crutch, but is it really seen like that by the developers? Would they be willing to make an actual port if the conditions allow for it? Tribsoft died in their attempts, not sure exactly why... Right now, are you interested in seeing Kohan II on Linux? If so, are you interested ina winelib version or an actual port? If you want a port I suggest letting http://www.timegate.com/ know your preference :). StarTux 2003-03-04 19:36:21 9243
9260 OilWar games -1 Re: OMG! I hope Mr. Bush does see this.
I know Bobz enjoys sensoring my posts with his jack-booted "kick" button he recently installed on his keyboard, yet the United States now has no more reason to persue anyone into Afghanistan. According to the news, the United States military has captured the single man that orchestrated the World Trade Center Jet hijacking and bombings and the United States intelligence officials have confirmed that Ossama Bin Laden is just a fanboy (a church) that gives everyone his malicious opinions (his point-of-view) on why it is good to die a martyr for Islam/Muslim beliefs of Allah.
Notice, how everyone is talking about invading Afghannistan, installing a puppet Democracy forcibly upon the people in Afghanistan; not let the Arabs set-up their own government, force them into selling specifically oil, and any who oppose is slandered and libeled by unproven accusations of pro-terrorism and anti-American? The United States has access to oil in Alaska yet whenever the idea is presented, one of the Democans starts yelling that it will harm the wild-life. Then a Republicrat says they aren't drilling anywhere near where the animals (specifically the deer) are being affected, and then the idea is dumped. Russia wants to sell oil, why not buy from them? All I see now is the United States is implying "Imminent Domain" upon the middle-east for the oil. I wouldn't want anyone declaring "Imminent Domain" on my house and I believe strongly. I remember when Russia tried to genocide Afghanistan! Ossama was an agent of the United States at the time. Talk about making friends and somthing happens to where your friend in Afghanistan hates your guts for a reason the American News companies do their best to not let into the News!
"Do unto others as you would have done unto yourself." -Jesus Christ
However, the United States is not Christian and does not share my belief. The United States is a pagan organization, following the footsteps of the greeks' false gods and mythologies. Look ontop of the Abraham Lincoln building: a statue of MINERVA, a greek god! WTF! Pagan!
Aren't I the greatest troll? 2003-03-04 19:36:23 9255

9263 Falsoyd games 4512 Re: Don't know how much this has improve Hi, I am the grumpy one. I hope you didn't take my complaining as a flame, it wasn't meant to be, and seriously, I hope your project gets done. It's just that even if you have little time to code your project, adding a very brief description of how each release improves on the last doesn't take much.
There must be several hundreds, maybe even thousands of projects on the Game Tome, I don't have time to count, let alone try to install them all, so if I've already tried something that has played really badly in the past, I'll need a reason to believe it's worth spending any more time with at all when I could be trying to install, say, Arkhart, or Trackballs, etc. For all I know, that first version could have been your idea of good gameplay (or maybe you couldn't spot what was wrong), and you might have only been adding things like music, or redefinable keys, or whatever.
I now see that suddenly you have such a list of changes on your main page (though it only mentions v0.7...), so my gripe is gone, and rather than complaining further, I'll shut up and see for myself if it does play better (if it doesn't, I'll let you know why tomorrow;) 2003-03-04 21:34:22 9247
9264 Arkhart games -1 Arkhart For debian users:

I use debian/unstable and even though I have all liblua packages installed, when compiling, it didnt find the lua includes files. I had to edit Modules/Lua/LuaTable.h and Modules/Lua/Luascript.cpp and manualy point them to the lua includes files. To do that, I had to copy them in the Arkhart tree (Modules/Lua in my case). After that change, it compiled and works just fine.

If anyone has a better solution, I'm all ears. :)

Other than that, the game looks very promising. Still early beta, but it works well, and I'm french, so I didnt have any problem with the french text. :) 2003-03-04 22:09:02 0

9266 OilWar games 6672 Re: OMG! Before one considers "dieing a martyr", one must consider several other things:
- Is the cause just?
- Will innocent people get killed? (Innocent people should not be killed, even if it means you yourself will get killed - e.g. so-called 'pre-emptive' attacks.)
- Will the individual go into battle WITH THE INTENTION of coming out alive? (Suicide is forbidden)
- Has the individual asked the parent's permission? It is better to serve ones parents than to fight against oppression.
- Has the individual done good deeds previously in life? (Good relations with relatives and nieghbours, striving hard to bring goodness to the world, etc.) "Martyrdom" is pointless without this.
- Does the individual have a state whose freedom they are fighting for? I don't recognise one state as being "Islamic" in todays world.
- And a few others points, that I don't know.

A reward equal to martyrdom is also achievable in to following:
- The one who dies in collapsing buildings. (YES!)
- The honest merchant who tells both good points AND bad points to customer at point of transaction.
- The person who exerts themselves in their parents' service.
- The one who dies from disease.
- The woman who experiences childbirth.
- The woman who goes on Hajj (pilgrimage to Mecca).
- The man who, when approached by the an attractive earthly woman offering herself for adultery or fornication, leaves with Allah in his heart, thinking of the reward in Paradise (room with many corners with a perfect woman in every corner, a mansion, a kingdom of their own with servants and companions, etc. etc.)
- And many others, which I don't know/remember.

The one who kills either themselves or someone else, is forbidden from Paradise regardless of the outcome of the affair.

Compare all this with what the Twin Towers Terrorist says, and you'll know he's lying.

Anyway, about the game, I think it is more to do with making a political statement than making a good game. Very simplistic (and boring after a while), but does its job. Could have been made better, with more features, but would have taken longer.

2003-03-04 23:28:37 9260
