Sure, a brother's gotta get paid, but I'd rather get paid doing meaningless tasks than to try and turn my hobby into a job (not to say that it's all bad, but I end up hating all jobs no matter how much I enjoyed the related activity beforehand). <br><br> So, as a thought to all the kids that are out for the cash (and possibly doing a fine job of making LGP think otherwise), think about it REALLY hard. | 9251 | Kingpin Client | games | 6924 | It works, but its pure hell to set up | After much pain and suffering I managed to get this game installed and working reasonably well on my desktop system (Debian Woody + Nvidia GF3) This is a great game, but the Linux port reflects every problem imagineable with proprietary Linux games. The main bugs that cause frustration in setting this game up have long since been fixed in the underlying quake2 code. If the source for Kingpin was available, I have no doubt that it would be working every bit as well as Quake2, but since it isn't you have to jerry-rig the dynamic libraries to fix a problem with the mouse cursor and make a loopback ISO and add it to your fstab in order to eliminate the pointless CD check. (I can't manage to get music playing off the CD in game...if someone else can I'd love to hear about it.) I'll put up a walkthough of how I got it installed and working once I've made my way through the game and verified that it doesn't have a show-stopper bug somewhere along the way.<br><br> Even if you can get it installed for now though, DO NOT BUY THIS GAME FOR LINUX IF YOU DO NOT OWN IT ALREADY. Sooner or later the ancient binaries available on the net will stop working properly with any reasonably modern Linux system. I'd love to think that at some point the source for this will be released, but that is not very likely.
