Freeciv is excellent the way it is. As a programmer I would hate to rewrite all the menus in freeciv, it would just be a lot of extra work. As a user I find nothing laking in freeciv, and I find that 1) It integrates into my environment better ( a) I do not use gnome or kde b) Not everyone runs everything fullscreen, especially at the high resolutions) 2) I really hate to learn some games obscure GUI's and menu selection systems. There are a few standard ways that one expects for a GUI to work, but it's much easier just to use QT/GTK, for _some_ games, which everyone (who uses linux) understands and has used at least sometime in the past. The line I draw in the sand has to do with how many menus there are and how fast the game play is. | 2003-02-04 05:27:32 | 8622 |

| 8627 | Adonthell | games | 7344 | Good | A nice project. It has rpms and compiles without problems, no strange deps. The bad news are that it progresses too slow. | 2003-02-04 06:27:50 | 0 |
| 8628 | BZFlag | games | -1 | Good game | If you try bzflag for the first time you can get frustrated very fast. Because you will be killed about every 10 seconds. But then you look at some opponent players and see them rolling around for hours having been shot only a few times. At that points its clear that bzflag needs lot of practise. And after you discover all the well balanced fetures like, guided missiles or laser flag, the motivation to kill as many opponents as possible raises dramatically. | 2003-02-04 06:34:08 | 0 |

| 8633 | 3203 | news | 7552 | I love this game! | I recently re-installed it on my Windows box and have been missing sleep and meals. :) The gameplay is streamlined, the graphics are excellent, the music is awesome... The only thing I can find to complain about has been brought up earlier: having to build your army from scratch each time. I'd like it more if we could choose to bring along army units that we've spent an entire scenario developing.
This would, of course, ruin the scenarios unless they were re-worked to accomodate this.
As to people complinaing that it takes too long to finish the game: I actually REALLY like that the game is as drawn out as it is. I can't justify paying for a game just to have it fly past me and be done with. Heroes of Might and Magic kept my wife and I entertained for months :)
So here's my question: Having purchased the game for Windows, when I finally move over to 100% Linux will I have to pay for it again, or will WineX support it, or can I just upgrade to the Linux binaries? | 2003-02-04 10:55:08 | 0 |
