| 8511 | Race | games | 3220 | Re: Control | I was expecting some criticism on the controls, as the game might have quite a steep learning curve. As the developer of the game, I however like the controls very much as they are now, and have no intention to change the behaviour of the cars any radically. Overall the controlls are exactly the way i want them now.
As Race is a physics simulation based game, one needs to consider issues also present in the real world. You can't drive in to a 90 or 180 deg turn at full speed and expect the car to follow all your commands perfectly. First you need to take the right angle of approach to the turn, let go of the gas to slow down and finally manuver the car trough the turn, also correcting the movement of the car to avoid spinning. Mastering all this takes practice, but this is exactly what i think makes Race a fun and challenging game (at least for me :)) I'm sorry if it's too frustrating to learn this, but i'm afraid there isn't much that can be done about it without ruining essential elements of the game.
Anyways, I appreciate the feedback :) | 2003-01-30 07:48:09 | 8494 |

| 8514 | Crystal Space | games | -1 | Re: GNU/Linux Planescape? I HOPE not | So what's wrong with what was said in the first posts ? This project is now using extremely restrictive proprietary licenses, this is a fact. | 2003-01-30 11:20:06 | 6101 |
| 8515 | Frozen Bubble | games | 1739 | great two-player fun | Great two-player fun and some cool music. Great game! This should be shipped with most distros as an example of what free Linux desktop games can be. | 2003-01-30 12:09:05 | 0 |
| 8516 | SARace | games | 5840 | promising | I must read source to find keyboard controls:
- arrows
- z ... accelerate
- s ... reverse
- F10 ... fullscreen

I also didn't know, that cars can be selected at beginning.
Game is nice and active. How can I see in TODO: "The camera position is fps dependant". I must run parallel "yes >/dev/null" to slow my CPU.
Models are excelent. I'll maybe use your library to export models from Blender. | 2003-01-30 13:00:08 | 0 |
