| 8433 | Cube | games | 4567 | Good work! | It worked out of the box, it worked well, it could be figured out on the flight. Good work! The only nag I can find is the sound coming from getting hit. The "ieoof" sounds just plain weird. ;) | 2003-01-25 11:48:03 | 0 |
| 8434 | Vega Strike | games | 4567 | Works, but UI slightly confusing | It worked out of the box, it has very cute music, and it looks spiffy. But while I was trying to figure out the controls on-flight (didn't work amazingly well, online help behind some logical key (F1/h/?) might be a nice addition since one can't conveniently read the readme while playing), I managed to shoot a miner ship of some sort.
Of course it shot back. I eventually managed to crash into it, a moral victory. Game reports that I've died, plays nice music, and I can't figure out what to do. After going through the keyboard, I kill -9 the thing (kill alone has no effect). Might be it had crashed, but it was responding to switch-perspective keypresses fine. Afterwards I read the readme and find that ":" would've respawned me (two keys simultaneously on my keyboard, drats, I didn't go through all of those ;)). The readme doesn't seem to mention how you're supposed to get out of the game, and at least when I was dead it didn't seem to react to ESC in any way. Some quitting instructions behind ESC/q might be nice.
I'll leave figuring out the game itself to my little sister. She's better at such than I am, I'm just the installer... | 2003-01-25 12:09:10 | 0 |

| 8441 | 3364 | news | -1 | Oh thank God! | At last someone is stepping forward to fill the first-person shooter void in Linux gaming! This sorely neglected genre is finally getting the attention it deserves with these new ports. The commercial Linux gaming market is clogged with dozens of stupid and boring strategy, role-playing and simulation games, but NOT A SINGLE 3D SHOOTER!
Thank you, Icculus, for giving us what we really need instead of just more of the same old crap.... | 2003-01-25 17:25:40 | 0 |
