| 8063 | 3284 | news | -1 | Re: How many play offline? | You're not.. I got this game in November, and never once logged in to the servers. My framerates would average 40-50fps, but quite often would drop to single digit levels when looking in certain directions. From playing it offline I realised that playing online would be foolish in the extreme. (My system is no slouch either.. 1.4ghz athlon, 1GB SDRAM, Geforce 3 ti200, Debian Sarge.)

After reading this nonsence I went and logged in to the master server simply to get my CD key listed as a Linux install. As far as I'm concerned, the game is simply unplayable online under Linux if you remotely hope to be competitive with Win32 clients, so I don't plan on playing online until some patches come out that ramp up framerates dramatically. I don't really get why performance is soo lousy (and why it doesn't seem to make a difference what settings are used.. My system performs just as poorly at 640x480 as it does at 1024x768.) There are obviously problems that go deeper than sub-standard hardware. | 2003-01-07 11:00:52 | 8055 |
| 8064 | Unreal Tournament 2003 | games | -1 | Re: ut2003 | According to the README for version 2166 you can use UT2003 on any graphics card using OpenGL, this is untested though and they still recommend you use a Nvidia graphics card. So try the latest version. | 2003-01-07 11:54:35 | 8062 |
| 8065 | Heroes | games | 6456 | Just like an Amiga game. | Whenever I started a game using my Gravis USB joypad the game would crash(lock up). But it looks great and plays fairly smoothly so - 4 stars. | 2003-01-07 13:06:32 | 0 |
| 8066 | 3285 | news | -1 | Hmmm... | My guess would be Grand Theft Auto 3. | 2003-01-07 13:43:03 | 0 |
| 8067 | 3284 | news | -1 | Re: How many play offline? | Hello, when I bought UT2003 last year I had some trouble with laggy netgames or performance loss with more than 10 players. But since the firs patch came out the game performs good even compared to the Windows installation (I tested both on the same machine - XP1800+, 512MB, GeForce3 Ti200) with Linux (gentoo) and Win XP installed. In my opinion the performance loss results from overestimated servers. Turning off my mldonkey somtimes helps, too...;-) ...take care... | 2003-01-07 14:44:27 | 8063 |

| 8070 | BZFlag | games | -1 | Excellent, addictive, but (for me) slow | I rarely get framerates above 15fps and almost never above 24 on my system, yet people I'm playing against constantly report 60-80, even 115 frames per second. I'm curious to know what other people's performance levels are like, and how I might improve mine.
I'm running on a (yes, old) 500mhz single Athlon, 384mb ram, 512mb swap, with a 64mhz GeForce 2 MX DDR (NV11) card, Debian Sarge and bzflag 1.7e6.
TIA. | 2003-01-07 18:59:49 | 0 |
| 8071 | 3285 | news | 6327 | I don't know what non-linux game are out | I've stopped paying attention to the windows world. Well, I'm praying for GTA 3 or 4, but I don't know if Rockstar is European or if they've made a racing game. If it's not, I can still get Payback. | 2003-01-07 20:22:56 | 0 |
