7743 3208 news -1 is this a joke ? Maybe they could start to tell us some more behind-the-scenes details, because man, I feel like they're just pulling my leg.
For example: How many people/man-hours are really being put into the Linux port? Is it a single part-time worker or the bulk of the dev team? Do they have a plan (e.g. "graphics first, then sound", with estimates on how long it should take) or are they just making it up as they go?
Right now, it all sounds very unprofessional. I'd have expected something like this from a garage company, but not from Bioware. 2002-12-14 01:19:45 0
7744 3208 news 6457 OMG what a CRAP Movies? Problem with playing movies? You know what mplayer is, mr NWN developer? Or maybe you heard about avifile? ffmpeg? But you can't convert your AMAZING NNW MOVIES to other format and play it with any lib available to Linux?
Next week we will read that developers realized DirectX doesn't work in Linux, and they start rewritting that sh^H^H^H^Hengine to OpenGL.
And Linux community will remember who lied.
PS. sorry for caps and agression, but it is HIGHLY annoying to read that every week 2002-12-14 02:30:05 0
7745 3208 news -1 amzing really Well i have nothing more to add but NWN team use www.libsdl.org there are libs for everything and like lokigames showed us SDL is useful. 2002-12-14 02:42:26 0
7746 3208 news -1 Re: OMG what a CRAP Most game companies wouldn't even be friendly enough to tell us about it. I think it's very cool that Bioware has decided to inform us about any developments. It's too bad they haven't really made NWN with portability in mind but maybe next time they'll do things different. Next time they may well even save a bit on the development costs if they opt to use SDL straight from the beginning. 2002-12-14 03:05:13 7744
7747 Transfusion games -1 what about ALSA Simple problem: no sound in this game. I have ALSA 0.9rc6 and not a beep out of this. Tihs situation is also common for me in Quake and Wolfenstein 2002-12-14 03:25:36 0
7748 3208 news -1 BINK Movie? BINK Movie?
That's a tough one.

http://www.radgametools.com/bnkdown.htm

I have been trying to get BINK movie playing on Linux, but to no avail.
I even emailed RAD asking about a Blink movie player on Linux, their answer is unfortunately: NO.

Blink Player has a Mac OS X version so I think it's possible to make a Linux port; hopefully NWN development will push this to happen sooner. 2002-12-14 03:51:44 0
7749 3208 news -1 I agree Either they were plainly lying about intending to release the Linux client at the same time as the Windows client, or their planning must be the worst I've ever seen. 2002-12-14 05:05:42 7740
7750 3208 news -1 Re: Buy some transgaming stuff... I'd prefer a native port thankyouverymuch. The transgaming stuff is mostly an elaborate hack to convert DirectX to OpenGL on the fly (kinda cool but unnecessary afaik its opengl anyway :) ) (well actually it's mostly wine but imho that hasn't much to do with transgaming as they don't contribute, they just took advantage of the old short-sighted wine licence) 2002-12-14 05:55:25 7732
7751 3208 news -1 I shout garg!
Screw the movies - just give us the text of the movie in a static screen until RAD decide Linux is worthy of attention. Sound? SDL has input, music/sound add-ons and other interesting bits. It's good enough for UT2003, so maybe, just maybe, it will be enough for a simple adventure game..
Today's news sorta made me give up waiting. I just don't think it'll happen now. I don't NEED movies, as I'm modding and playing my own stuff online, and slowly making Linux-based tools for modding/server maintenance. But if the client never shows up, why bother? Sod it, I'm keeping Win32 for playing DAoC, anyway. 2002-12-14 06:08:30 0
7752 3200 news 6073 Re: NVIDIA Linux driver update benchmark I've testet on my own 1.2Ghz gf2 ,and a friends XP2100 GF4 machine. both performed horrible after install. reverted both drivers. looking forward to an explanation from Nvidia.

My guess is, if you haven't had trouble with the drivers yet, you're going too.. - Styx 2002-12-14 09:37:32 7714
