| 7719 | 3203 | news | -1 | Re: Looks good | I have this game on Windoze though it looks beautiful, and I mean really beautiful, it plays like a play by email chess game. The graphics are fantastic especially when you go into an encounter with your opponent, it's in 3D with delightful animation to boot.

The game has several drawbacks though. For instance it takes way too long to complete some campaigns. On average I spent around 3-4 hours to complete some missions. A lot of the missions are not properly balanced, there are missions where it is virtually impossible to win because your opponents forces are stronger than yours. It has some sort of experience point sytem wherein your troops get stronger the more enemies they encounter. It has heroes or leaders like in WarCraft III however you can only import a certain number of leaders and items when moving on to the next mission. Furthermore, all the troops that you have wasted countless hours of developing and upgrading get left out in your next mission. For instance if you have an "elite" force of a knight, inquisitor, marksman, and mage don't expect them to go with your hero on your next mission. This, to me, is the most frustrating aspect of the game the first time I went and played it. I carefully chose my upgrade paths and fought numerous monstrosities to develop my troops only to find out that they will be left behind when I finished the mission. I had to start with a fresh set of troops, i.e. page, apprentice, etc., on the next mission and I had to develop them all over again.

Nonetheless, it is a beautiful drawn game. Though it has a multiplayer option, it takes way too much time to complete a mission on single player. It will take ages to complete one mission on multiplayer. The AI is tough to beat and tougher, if not impossible, when you come against a superior force and there are plenty of times when you will feel that the balance is just not right. | 2002-12-13 07:20:55 | 7711 |

If nVidia is distributing spyware, the Linux community will want to hear about it! I have an ATI card, so I can't do this myself. | 2002-12-13 08:08:56 | 7703 |

| 7724 | Mindrover | games | -1 | Re: This cool new update... | $3 for an update which doesn't change anything? only for support for maybe later updates? no way! | 2002-12-13 14:07:50 | 7723 |
| 7725 | Angband | games | -1 | The best game of all time | I've been playing Angband (and its predecessor Moria) for well over a decade now, and the shine still hasn't worn off. It is without doubt the best game ever made, not only in the rogue-like genre, but IMHO overall. Ignore the graphical tiles, and play in the original ASCII text mode to get the full effect. | 2002-12-13 14:21:41 | 0 |

| 7730 | Mindrover | games | 5401 | Re: This cool new update... | Okay, firstly it is £3. As in "pounds".. not that that's any cheaper though ;-)

But it's actually very reasonable, let me explain.
Firstly, what you recieve is _support for the game from LGP_ plus downloads for future upgrades and patches from LGP. And there will, of course, be such upgrades. They intend to get it up to date with the Windows version.
Secondly, I think the price is perfectly reasonable. LGP wont earn cash from the already sold Loki versions, so upgrading and supporting the Loki version for free would be a waste of time and money on their account.. They have to earn something for their efforts.
And I think this is the perfect way of doing it. And come on... It's not like £3 is _that_ much of a price, is it? :-) | 2002-12-13 16:38:14 | 7724 |
