| 7358 | Virtual GameBoy Advance | games | -1 | Re: Virtual GameBoy Adva | Just note that Virtual GameBoy Advance (VGBA) and Visual Boy Advance (VBA) are two different projects, though both aiming for emulating GBA.

With VBA you can enable Super Eagle/2xSaI engine which will make the game graphic look much better. | 2002-11-18 05:42:54 | 4448 |

| 7364 | Cedega (WineX) | games | -1 | winex | It is really great, it works with most of the games and at great speed. I don`t have reason to play from Windows any more.... adoshi | 2002-11-18 14:12:23 | 0 |

| 7367 | Project: Starfighter | games | -1 | Re: Nice game... a bit slow, though. | and I would like this time to point out that even a bloody Commodore 64 overclocked to 700MHz should run a 2d space shooter that looks like this. Surely you can't honestly think that a 700MHz Celeron is so bad it can't run a simple 2D shooter that looks like a remnant from the 486 era decently? | 2002-11-18 14:44:17 | 7294 |
| 7368 | HackNet | games | 4512 | Thoughts so far | Hmm, well, I've mucked about with it for a while now, and looked at all (?) the files, and tried to understand the file formats and the perl code, etc. Seems quite promising! Here are my observations (drumroll, trumpets, fanfare ;)
-I tried throwing a clothyard shaft (?), and it ended up embedded in a wall, where I couldn't retrieve it
-There is no experience (though the players do have "level" data items) - is this just because it isn't implemented yet, or will there be no experience?
-There seem to be a few screwups in the mapfiles (and map section of the master file) - The "catacombs" level (in hacknet1.map) goes down to a "testlevel" level, which doesn't exist. I had to change this to point to "catacombs2", whereas the final level, "ancient_caves", lead up to "catacomb2" which was missspelt. Before I noticed this, going downstairs from catacombs left my player stuck in a level that was all wall.
-When I changed that, I couldn't find a downstairs from catacombs2 to ancient_caves, but maybe I just didn't look far enough?
-One of the objects, a "bone skullcap", has symbol set to "grey", which I presume is wrong!
-Keys- you have "r=read" and then "r=remove item". Oops! Also, wizards (maintainers) have amongst their controls "m=monster"(?) and then "m=shutdown"!!
-Speaking of wizards, they should be able to see through walls. Would make any maintenance much easier if they couldn't get lost...
-More than once I've found a "?" tile somewhere in the game, apparently stuck in a wall. Can find no reference to this.
-If this is to be a multiplayer game, maybe we should have a public server! Hint hint! ;) | 2002-11-18 20:12:39 | 0 |
| 7369 | HackNet | games | 4512 | Re: Thoughts so far | Oh, just remembered- one time I quit my player (only one logged in), and a while later, the server crashed (with noone logged in). | 2002-11-18 20:15:01 | 7368 |
| 7370 | Cedega (WineX) | games | -1 | It's sad to see someones ranting | It makes me fell sad when I read the text "Run Windows games in Linux! Slowly! Unstably! Help prevent native ports!". This doesn't belong on the first line of the description of a project.
Why do some people have to rant about project that *they* doesn't like. This happens constantly.
If you really want to see more games on linux why don't you put your effort to the work to make that happen, instead of throwing shit on other peoples projects. If it helps people (they find it useful), why not be happy for that?
The argument that it stops native ports isn't really that thought out in my opinion. Im impressed with the native ports that exist to linux already. We're really making progress here. The progress of this project will increase linux acceptance as an desktop OS for gaming, and that is a good thing, and that helps native ports being created aswell, cause theirs nothing that needs all the performance it can get from the OS such as games.
/ High | 2002-11-19 00:47:33 | 0 |
