| 7294 | Project: Starfighter | games | -1 | Re: Nice game... a bit slow, though. | I'd like to take this time to point out you have no reason to bitch about your speed seeing how the Celeron processor is the slowest processor on the face of the earth regardless of what megahertz it is. It's hard to believe people still rate procesors based on their megahertz. | 2002-11-13 17:58:48 | 7282 |
| 7295 | Labyrinth of Worlds | games | 6668 | ... not playable | "Not playable" means that while the Tech Demo does indeed work, you cannot actually play the game just yet: there is no combat, no interaction with NPCs; no magic; no skills, etc. It might look good/be amusing, but it's a very boring "game" for now. :)
As development progresses and the game moves into a playable (even if incomplete) alpha, the category will be updated to 'Role PLaying'.
-- Coren / Marc A> Pelletier | 2002-11-13 18:19:06 | 7291 |

| 7297 | XU4 | games | 4512 | Bug? (syntactic) | According to gcc (2.95.4), map.h has an error on line 55. Looking at it, it's a union element inside the struct _Map, which doesn't have an element name. Dunno if this works on other compilers / other versions, or if it was released without testing (seems unlikely!) but it doesn't work here.
BTW, though it wasn't hard to check, the default install directories given in the makefile are inappropriate - users would probably want to change them (especially those who don't have KDE, or don't have an /etc/X11/applnk directory). | 2002-11-13 19:24:56 | 0 |

| 7299 | Cedega (WineX) | games | 4 | Re: Description | If there are 10000 paying subscribers, game companies would know that those 10000 people wouldn't buy their linux port cause they already bought the windows version. | 2002-11-14 00:55:37 | 7289 |

| 7302 | Cedega (WineX) | games | -1 | Re: WineX 2.1.1 Full | You are probably very right that Wine prevents native ports (or at the very least makes it less attractive for game developers to focus on linux ports since their product already works on linux using WineX). However what WineX does help with is getting linux in the mainstream market. And that alone is a goal good enough. At this point in time I don't think it really matters to have more linux-native games. What we have to concentrate on first is to make sure Linux gets recognized as a viable platform for playing games on. The way these games are playable (i.e. using WineX) is mostly irrelevant except for the hard-core linux user.
BTW. I'm the project manager of Crystal Space 3D engine which allows you to make games that work both on linux, windows, MacOS/X, ... :-)
Greetings, | 2002-11-14 04:59:41 | 7298 |
