If you did you might be familiar with the LGPL, which allows you maintain a closed-source library linked against open-source code that calls its functions. Which is more or less what you'd be doing here. See, I can be an elitist moron and accuse you of not doing your research either.

So now stating a fact or writing some reference is considered "to be an elitist moron"? Well, then everybody is. It defines humanity.

> Fact of the matter is, I'm making a point that most of you can't accept - that there's no moral or legal obligation for anyone to release GPL'ed code for Linux, unless said code uses anything licensed under the GPL.

Try this explanation: people release code in GPL (and not LGPL) because they want to do it. They believe in free software and want to push it forward in this distinct way that GPL permits. They want to do it for recognition and they want to see improvements by the community as well. They will do that whatever you have to say. That won't change. And I personally see nothing wrong in going GPL.

If you don't like the GPL use something else. Use BSD or public domain. I don't care. Use closed source, use it indoor only or even delete it. I don't care. But if you do release it as closed software, I won't use it when my project is GPLed. And that's about it, no remorses, no hard feelings. Perhaps it is you that can't accept the facts.

I won't aggressively beat you if I see you walking down the street. I don't care what you do, the software is yours. Don't tell me what to do neither. | 2002-11-06 13:11:30 | 7158 |

| 7169 | 3062 | news | 4207 | Not a bad time to do a "facewash" | I think it is not a bad time to do a "facewash" of the site. The actual design is cool and very functional, but changing the colors/gfx and posibility of update pojects screenshots will (maybe) nake of this a nicer place to come. maybe also adding a "happypenguin´s rate and comunity´s rating" for the projects i dont know... just do it :) greetings | 2002-11-07 01:47:38 | 0 |
| 7170 | Kyro Linux Tools | games | 4181 | Ugh | Has someone actually designed that UI, or just dropped widgets onto it in random order?
But, this is good stuff, and something that all manufacturers should do. They all have apps for Windows that can configure eveything their cards can handle, so how hard can it be to port those to Linux? It's a question of not caring or not having the knowledge. I suspect the latter with a little bit of the former. | 2002-11-07 03:16:31 | 0 |
| 7171 | Kyro Linux Tools | games | -1 | Re: Ugh | It isn't really a matter of porting it. All that KLT does is parse an INI for the drivers, and changes some variables. It is actually a pretty simple and effective program, written in GTK, and it works really well. It accomplishes the same things as the real Windows program does, actually. | 2002-11-07 04:22:35 | 7170 |
