3050 news 6555 WHO CARES... Just let them bullshit around... it will probably take them a year, where as they could have hired a COMPETANT developer and employed winelib and gotten most of it done in a matter of weeks as opposed to going though the learning curve(learning a platform and a compiler) and doing it in house... Just another bad business decision, now they are gonna say "The must be no market for linux games" although a major reason is that they didn't get their act together in time... One of the reasons i would have bought the game is that I could play it with my windows friends... now while that may be still true after the release, most of my friends will have bought newer games, so they will probably not want to play this game alot... - r0gu3 2002-11-02 18:05:04 0
3050 news 6121 You asked for the bullshit :-) If you had followed the forums on the Bioware website you would be aware that one of the things people wanted was screen shots and progress running reports on the linuc client. This is what they gave us. It is nice that Mr " I use Mandrake" doesn't care about Red Hat 8 issues because Just about every one I know who is waiting for this is using Red Hat 8 and not Mandrake. Perhapps you would be happier if they made it work on Mandrake and nothing elese? May be that is irrelevant but I hardly see them ignoring a large part of the linux community for the sake of a few weeks extra dev time. Sure the port is taking a long time but did you really expect it take a few weeks? Lets be real here. Give Them a chance. At least they are porting it. 2002-11-02 21:47:26 0
3050 news -1 glibc/gcc mess Whether they have competent *nix programmers or not, the recent release of RedHat 8 has caused issues in many of the software projects that I follow, and I can see this problem only getting worse as more distributions move over to the newer versions. Why not take the time to get things right now, rather than release a version that is likely to break a little way down the line for the distributions that haven't moved ahead yet? As for the argument of getting someone in to write it, surely a company wishing to take the time to move into this market is a good sign, and opens the door for future projects? 2002-11-02 22:53:42 0

3050 news 3 "Trudging"? And trudged to Rome upon my naked feet. --Dryden
Nope, that doesn't really make me feel confident. On the one hand, I tend to think "wtf are they doing?", on the other hand I feel sorry for their developers who are apparently working on unknown and mined territory yet desperately try to do their best. 2002-11-03 01:56:44 0

3050 news 5676 Re: You asked for the bullshit :-) You misunderstand me. I should have been clearer when I said "I don't care about RH8..." because what I meant was as an end-user the problems they are having with "...the GCC compiler under RedHat 8..." are irrelevent. With RtCW I just downloaded one Linux binary and I am expecting the same for NWN. Their problems are development machine specific not end-user related. 2002-11-03 04:10:21 7069
