7053 Adonthell games 6382 Try Page Up/Down You can scroll back to the NPC text with the Page Up key. I admit that this isn't very convenient (and not very obvious either). This will be fixed in one of the next releases, though. Promised! 2002-11-01 15:37:21 7049

7063 3050 news 5676 I'm scared :s wtf r they doing? do they have a *nix programmer over there or not? scary. and i don't really care about gcc and redhat either as i'm using mandrake and suse and we are gonna get binaries anyway right? no wonder it's taking so long :O doesn't sound to me like they are really taking this seriously enough (at all). 2002-11-02 16:20:35 0
7064 3050 news -1 never When that poll was up that asked when we thought the linux client was coming, I voted "never", and I stand by my answer still, several months later. 2002-11-02 16:41:44 0
7066 3050 news 6051 Hmmmm.... I hope I'm wrong... but for the last couple of months it just sounds like one bullsh^t excuse after another... they are just buying time... The code must be really awful for it to take this long to port.... its not like they are porting it to an Alpha or something!!! 2002-11-02 17:09:52 0
7067 3050 news -1 OK, there's a bit of negatives here The mouse issue is very real; do you expect the mouse wheel to just work when you play the game or not? Is it expected to work even when you do not have the wheel configured for your desktop?
As for RH8, the issues with it (gcc3.2, UTF-8 and so on) are just a few months away for most distros, and does need to be addressed.
The thing is, for cutting edge graphics and sound under Linux, these areas do need to be addressed by any game company that are aiming for a release that should work across distributions, library versions and desktops. It is a mess. Not a really bad mess, mind you, but still a mess.
Fortunately, with the advent of OSX, it can be profitably addressed as another kind of Unix mess - which means that Linux is a viable porting target, if for no other reason than that it is a stepping stone toward OSX. This can only mean that the argument for Linux gaming (which traditionally is very weak) has grown a little bit stronger.
/Janne 2002-11-02 17:57:10 0
