| 6949 | 3016 | news | -1 | Kudos | to No Starch Press and Mr.Hall. I actually have a hard copy of this sitting beside me and I've been hoping that there might be a follow up? Also are they going to run that contest again? o.F. | 2002-10-22 20:47:48 | 0 |
| 6950 | 3016 | news | -1 | Re: This is great. | I won't call "Linux Game Programming" by Prima Tech a "great" book but still nice to have around. (Too bad that I don't have it, I borowed from a friend) For me that book was more like a dictionary of terms than a real computer programming book. What I like in John Hall book is that he really shows how to do a simple game and he describes very well API's , parts of game programming etc ... (I even started using cvs after I read his book) It's nice that this book is available online a big thanks for the author. P.S. The only problem that I saw on the book is when John Hall tell us about Deux Ex being available for linux and sending us to grab a copy :) where ? | 2002-10-23 01:46:57 | 6943 |

| 6952 | 3016 | news | -1 | Re: This is great. | The Deus Ex fiasco was unfortunate. It did exist for Linux, but I doubt it'll see the light of day. :-/
-John | 2002-10-23 08:27:40 | 6950 |
| 6953 | 3016 | news | -1 | Re: Kudos | There are currently no plans for a followup, but I won't rule out the possibility.
I might be up for another game contest at some point. No Starch Press, Loki, and Linux Journal were incredibly generous with prizes last time. I'm not sure I can ask them to do that again, at least for a while.
-John | 2002-10-23 08:32:04 | 6949 |
| 6954 | Freeciv | games | 5910 | Re: Reasonably good | Yes, but I can well play it on my LAN with some friends using my old 33Mhz 486 machine and the lightest of windowmanagers of course :) which is not true for any commercial version, that lags a lot even on my 166Mhz machine and still a bit on my fastest one. In my opinion the game shouldn't be 'spiced up' though the diplomacy thing would really be a great improvement if it could be as complex as in the commercial brothers. | 2002-10-23 09:33:30 | 6858 |
| 6955 | Freeciv | games | -1 | yes, long, but the best LAN party game. | I know, but it's fun to invite friends over, buy a buncha' 486 computers for like, 5$ each, install this, and then get about 20 of your friends all playing together, and play all night. The only problem me & my friends have is we all want to be either Mordor or Linus, Ruler of Finland. We have to take turns, though... :( | 2002-10-23 13:19:09 | 6360 |
