Markus Hadwiger sent me a heads-up about some new stuff at the Parsec Homepage:

We've just updated the Parsec Homepage with a new screenshot showing an entirely new spacecraft, background nebula, and planet. We've also added a new EVENTS section in the news, to reminisce of major Parsec-related events in the past along with a couple of nice photos, like our booth at LinuxTag and the conference talks we have given in the past. The WORK IN PROGRESS section (also in the news) has also been updated to reflect what we're working on right now/got done over the last several weeks.

They're looking for name ideas for the nifty spaceship in the screenshot to the right. If you have ideas, send them to parsec@parsec.org. Parsec is a multiplatform multiplayer 3D space dogfighting game currently under development. |

Description: X ARCHON pits the light side against
the dark side in a battle for the
control of a chess-like playing board.

It is a clone of the classic ARCHON
game that was distributed by Electronic
Arts around 1985.

There is a strategy part to X ARCHON,
in which you move creatures on
chessboard, but more fun is the tactic
part, which begins when two creatures
want the same board-square. The tactic
part ends when only one of the two
creatures is left standing . . .

Samantha Merold is the lucky winner of the Find the Turnip contest! I drew her name from more than 500 entries. Loki Entertainment Software will send Samantha a shiny new copy of Myth II: Soulblighter for her very own. Congratulations, Samantha!

John McClenning, Anders Holmquist, and William Nguyen are the three lucky(?) runners-up who win pictures of my cat, Mandelbrot, posing cutely beside a Myth II box.

Curiously, there has been some demand for me to display a photograph of Mandelbrot here for all to see. I feel that to do so now would cheapen the hard-won prizes of our runners-up, and so I am not going to capitulate. I do understand that the actual purpose of the Web is to allow people to share pictures of their cats (along with their personal poetry), but circumstances dictate that I cannot share at this time. |
