Unreal Tournament 2003 | games | -1 | Re: gentoo live | UT2003 is compiled for a Pentium Pro. That means it won't run on a K6-2. K6-2s don't do pentium pro instructions. sorry. | 2002-09-19 11:33:49 | 6621
Quake | games | -1 | Re: Quake | Exactly my problem. I am running an old cheapo laptop with a S3 chip in it. I figured Quake I should run well on a 266, but I can't get the software version to run. qwcl.x11 runs fine, but what if I'm not online? No single player? I also suspect it's a glibc versus lib5c thingy. This needs to be recompiled on a new distro. | 2002-09-19 11:58:07 | 6500

Unreal Tournament 2003 | games | -1 | Re: how do install it??? | That changes the permissions to make it executable. Another easy way is "chmod 777 filename" then run it like any other command. | 2002-09-19 13:09:54 | 6630
unreal tournament 2003 | games | -1 | Re: can i get it run with a Radeon 8500 | I agree. The Kyro 2 is a great card for Linux. The drivers have drastically improved since the last release, and with a few tweaks, they will be perfect. The latest codebase seems to be offering more an more improvements. Let's hope that Epic fixes this problem, though I am sure that they will blame PowerVR for the Kyro's drivers and expect them to do it instead. It seems like Epic puked out this OpenGL engine in a matter of a week... Things just seem broken and non-standard/incompatible. But it is nice that they offered something, anyway. | 2002-09-19 13:19:14 | 6620
Vendetta | games | -1 | there is Open source equivalent | there is an Open source equivalent (at least one) called vega strike, http://vegastrike.sourceforge.net/index.html Its engine is well written, while its graphics need some tweak. However, if we want nice, free, open source games, then we have to spend our time on them. It is not good if programmers have to make graphics too. Most of the linux gamers has enough knowlege to help making better graphics for Open-source games. And don't forget working on a game project is almost as fun as playing with them (if not even better ;) | 2002-09-19 13:59:31 | 0
Pachi el marciano | games | 506 | Re: Thanks | The jump behaviour is currently completly linear, no gravity and no (pseudo) physics takes places. Beside that there is no way to dose the jump height, the sprite jumps always the same height. Most other jump and runs have at least some kind of pseudo physics takes place so that the sprite accelerates at the fall down and allow also to dose the jump (short button press, small jump, long press -> big jump) | 2002-09-19 13:59:49 | 6611
Unreal Tournament 2003 | games | -1 | LAN Game | I am having problems connecting to a LAN server from the linux client. If I type "open IP" in the console it connects but the server does not appear in the server browser at all. This problem does not occur with online games. Any suggestions? | 2002-09-19 16:09:13 | 0
unreal tournament 2003 | games | -1 | Re: Damnit. | Well damn man, Palm Pilots have an openGL, but that doesn't mean you'll be fragging off of that anytime soon. Games run the industry. I'd like to run UT2003 on my P600 with a VooDoo3, but I realize that it's deprecated hardware that can't give me the experience that the designers of today's games inteded. If it doesn't have better grahpics, it just won't sell. Besides, it's not like all your copies of Doom and Quake disappear or get any less fun because of a latest-and-greatest game release. | 2002-09-19 16:24:56 | 6627
