A character ill be able to be anything they choose, from a fighter pilot, a warlord command fleets of thousands, to a humble civilian who spends his days going to the local bar, and playing cards. The scope of the universe is huge, and unprecedented. With over 1500+ worlds planned, it's going to be big, really big.

However, it isn't there yet. This is just the second alpha release of the game, which was started in September 2004. Right now they are focusing on the flight sim part. The next release will feature combat, and networking, but for now, all you can do is fly around, slamming into asteroids. (Which is fun, don't get me wrong.) They would like to get as many people trying out their current alpha, and finding all the possible bugs, as well as visiting the forums to generate a nice user base by the time networking is introduced (this September). The forums are located at: http://www.gne.g33xnexus.com/forums

Please, come and discuss some of the ideas the dev team has! (They want to make this game into what the players want, so they frequently discuss game design in the general forum)
The Seventh Game: Precursors 0.3.1 alpha new The Seventh Game: Precursors

The players task in this game is to find jobs and finish missions to earn money and make a living. Windstille has now been Help Wanted GotM for one month so its time to look back at was has been done and what still needs to be done. An overview over the stuff that got done first:

TTF font support, together with all kinds of font effects
3D sprites and a Blender exporter for them
a few 3d models of important characters
major code cleanup
mostly switched away from ClanLib, however not completly yet
a 2D box-based collision engine
some work on the level editor, tile-definition file parsing mostly
scripting support via Squirrel
a Quake-like console with Tab-completion
some work on the story, even so not much
For more news on what is currently worked on you can visit Windstille Wiki News. Now back to the stuff that is still to be done:

level editor cleanup, while basically working, a lot of features are missing, it is for most part Ruby based, so people familar with that language are welcome
levels design, at the moment we don't have any levels, beside some stuff for testing, we however have some stuff drawn on paper and a bunch of tiles to make use of
3d modeling of characters and alien creatures, we have some, but need lots more
rigging and animation in Blender, we have people working on it, but some help could help
sound effects, currently nobody is working on that
bug fixes and bit-sized tasks, the Jobs Wiki Page has plenty of them, if you wanna get started pick one and work on it
story work, we have a setting and a few characters, but there is still a lot of room for additional stories, side-quest and events
figure out exactly which objects and features are needed or the first release and which aren't
The latest development version of Windstille is available via Subversion from:

svn co svn://svn.berlios.de/windstille/trunk/

IRC Meeting on Saturday
At Saturday, 30. Juli 2005 we will have another IRC meeting to discuss the further progress of this game and welcome newcomers, assign tasks and such. The channel is also at all times the primary place to discuss the development of the game, so even at non-IRC meeting times you have a good chance to catch one of the developers:
Server: irc.freenode.net
Channel: #windstille
Date: Saturday, 30nd July 2005
Time: 16:00 GMT

Happypenguin's Help Wanted: Windstille - One month has passed - Progress Report default
