| 5734 | 2577 | news | -1 | Beta was kept secret. | You don't know that it hasn't been beta tested. I read a beta impressions article the other day. The tester needed Bioware's and Infogrames' permission to write it, so it stands to reason that beta testers were forbidden from advertising the beta. | 5735 | 2577 | news | -1 | Re: Get a grip | Don't get me wrong, it's not like I enjoy knowing Linux has such a miniscule desktop market share. I'm guessing the Linux developers at Bioware don't like it either, which is why they've had the intent to have Linux support in a potentially best-selling game.
Think of all those Mac people who don't get even the big games from Windows until a full port is made months later (e.g. Soldier of Fortune 2 or Jedi Outcast) or even years later (e.g. Giants Citizen Kabuto).
In this single case we desktop Linux users are much better off in that our OS was publicly in the cards from the outset, and I'm impressed with Bioware that they decided to still do it in the face of delays and seeing just how hard the game is to get out the door.
If Bioware takes a very long time to produce the Linux binaries, well then we can start complaining, but the Windows version isn't even in the store yet.
--Infinity | 2002-06-12 09:56:20 | 5732 |
| 5736 | 2577 | news | 4 | Only good reaction | Don't buy the game until the Linux version is really there. (And perhaps tell the developers.) | 2002-06-12 10:21:03 | 0 |
| 5737 | 2577 | news | -1 | Loose of trust in Bioware? Or not! | I surely hope you right. I played many Bioware games including Baldurs Gate I & II Icewind Dale. And I was pleased to see that those game didn't absolutely needed a patch. The patch weren't critical ( as in other games I tried ) . But having myself registered as a beta tester and not having received any feedback I hope they did it. Cuz this would really put a dark sky over my trust in bioware. Now everyone pray so that the linux release will exist! | 2002-06-12 12:06:04 | 5714 |

| 5742 | Crimson Fields | games | 6025 | Crimson Fields: Great mix of RTS and TBS | Great Engine! Can't wait to see the flying units in action (as well as the naval units). Hasn't crashed on me while in the game yet, so congratulations for a quality piece of work (good art, btw, too). My one gripe (but not big enough to knock my rating down to 4 stars) is the lack of a campaign mode. As said above, I really like the mix of real-time strategy and tabletop wargame that you've created. I noticed the format of your data is in some binary format. Is there an editor in the works at all? Thanks for a great game | 2002-06-12 17:37:03 | 0 |
| 5743 | PlaneShift | games | -1 | Re: Some additional info | And the art is 77% of the game so 77% is propriatary. PS isn not opensource, the code may be but an apple on a cake does no make the cake an apple | 2002-06-12 18:57:19 | 5730 |
| 5745 | PlaneShift | games | -1 | Re: Some additional info | Open Source is all about SOURCE. Art work is NOT source. The RPG rules are another matter. One could argue that those are source and they probably are. So I would say that PS is about 95% Open Source. Art work doesn't count here. Greetings, | 2002-06-12 23:17:13 | 5743 |
