5718 Mindrover games -1 Re: Mindrover You can share bots, but there isn't a metaserver so you can compete right on the spot. 2002-06-11 20:41:03 3600
5719 FreeDroid games 5910 Re: Great version of a classic game I'll forward that to our designer ;) There should be a switch between "classic" and "new" graphics as soon as we have the "new" :) Same goes for the text: They should be optional via a switch in the options menu. Be sure that this will be included in the next version. BTW, if you want to make up your own level and send it in, feel free to do so. Thanks for trying out Freedroid. Sincerly, Johannes. 2002-06-11 23:47:39 5712

5727 2577 news -1 Get a grip Get a grip, the linux world is extremely lucky to get anything from any game developer these days, what with less than 5 percent of the desktop market.
Their pledge to support Linux is even more remarkable in light of the fact that the game is as late as it is.
I only wish Borland had gotten its act together by releasing a C++ Builder for Linux so they could port the toolset to Linux. (I heard that's what kept Bioware from porting the toolset.)
Does anyone know if the DM client will be ported to Linux, or "just" the client and server parts?
Enjoy,
Infinity 2002-06-12 06:25:21 0

5729 PlaneShift games -1 Re: Grumble... Crystal Space doesn't use COM anymore. We abandonded COM a LONG time ago (several years now). We now made our own system (called SCF) which is much more cross-platform and much nicer too :-)
Crystal Space also doesn't use DLL's on linux but just .so files (dynamic shared libraries) which are purely a unix feature.
Greetings, 2002-06-12 07:01:10 5696
5730 PlaneShift games -1 Re: Some additional info PlaneShift is FULLY Open Source. You can already download the source (at http://sf.net/projects/planeshift, see the cvs tab). It is only the art that has a more restrictive license.
Greetings, 2002-06-12 07:02:34 5700
5731 PlaneShift games -1 Re: Grumble... I'm very close to the PlaneShift project (I'm the project manager of Crystal Space) but I must say that the PS project is VERY active. There is lots of work going on every day and things are looking very good. It is a lot different compared to TimeCity. The problem with TimeCity was a project manager that didn't seem to care. At least he didn't gave the impression that he cared about his project. Luca Pancallo cares about PlaneShift. A Lot.
Greetings, 2002-06-12 07:04:33 5702
5732 2577 news -1 Re: Get a grip I'm really tired of the answer "just be happy there's a port at all". In this discussion, the issue is that Bioware has been promising one thing for years, and now at the last minute they're showing just how good their word is. Yes, it's good that there'll eventually be a Linux client, but on release day when my friends with Windows are getting online and experiencing the new world for the first time, and I'm waiting for the "shortly afterward" release, that won't be much consolation.
Anyone want to wager on the likelihood of patches to the Linux client also arriving "shortly afterward", further hobbling our ability to play with others? 2002-06-12 07:32:49 5727
5733 2577 news -1 Linux version likely a looong way off Think about the fact that this game has not been beta-tested on any platform. It's going to be a buggy release, which will send the developers scrambling to release a patch that will make the game playable. Given that scenario, do you think the Linux port will have much priority? 2002-06-12 08:30:39 0
