Category: Action
Description: Originally released by Electronic Arts (back when they were a development house and not yet a Giant Evil Corporation) in the early 1980's for 8 bit platforms like the Apple II, Atari 400/800 and Commodore 64, Archon remains one of the Best Games Ever. It successfully blended action and strategy in a way I've never seen since.

This is a remake of that classic game. The game is completely playable in two-player mode, but the AI for the computer opponent is still under development. The graphics, which don't match my recollection of the game, could use some work, too.

Action takes place on 9x9 black and white grid, and each piece has chess-ish restrictions on how it can move. Pieces are stronger or weaker according to the color of the square they're on, and some squares constantly change color from black to white and back. When one piece lands on a square occupied by an opposing piece, the game switches into action mode, where the units duke it out in a realtime battle, each using their unique battle powers.

Beta-testing of Loki Entertainment Software's latest port, Railroad Tycoon II, has officially begun, and the Loki Portal Page already has some screenshots up. I'll post a mini-preview of the game here when Real Life lets up enough for me to spend some time with it. |

Changelog: This is old news if you visit Linuxgames.com, but I just spotted it. A pre-release of the next "stable beta" is available, as are some really cool new screenshots. Grab this pre-release and submit bug reports so the CS developers can turn this into an "official" release.
