This weekend I went outdoors to see what all the hoopla is about. I found it to be bright, too hot, and I couldn't find an ethernet jack anywhere. Don't believe the hype. Indoors is where it's at.

Here's a quick rundown of some stuff that happened while I was out being hot:

Ryan Glasnapp is writing a clone of the classic BBS door game Tradewars 2002, in which you trade between ports, create planets and attempt to gain power and influence. There's more information and some code at Mr. Glasnapp's website. Email him if you're interested in helping with development.

GA Source is running an interview with Adam Stubblefield of Singularity Software. You'll recall that SS's 3d real-time strategy game Fire & Darkness won the grand prize and audience choice awards at the Independent Games Festival a few months back. (Thanks linuxgames.com)

Q3Test v1.06, sporting a new map and lotsa bug fixes, has been released for Windows, but the Linux and Mac ports aren't yet available. We're told to expect the Linux release later this week.

Description: King of the Hill, KOTH, is an artillery game in the grand old
tradition of little tanks with ridiculously powerful weapons trying to
blow each other up while trying to avoid getting blown up themselves.

Perhaps at this point you may be thinking, "yea, yea, another stupid
wannabe clone of the Gh0d of these sorts of games, Scorched Earth" but
wait - KOTH has a major feature that no other (free) game of this
genre I know of has: fully networked multiplayer.

KOTH is based on a client-server networking model. Players can join
and leave at any time, and because bandwidth use is quite modest you
can even easily play over a modem - KOTH really is a strategy game,
pingtime is irrelevant.

The WorldForge project (formerly Altima) has released version 0.3.0 of Anvil, their Gnome client. WorldForge is a free online role-playing game under development. While the game is still not very playable due to the lack of a comlete game server, it seems to be coming along pretty well. Thanks, Christian Schaller. |

Bob feels cranky this morning, so he's going to take it out on you. Remember, it's because he loves you:

When you email me and say things like "d00d, your kewl. How do u make q3test run for Linu><?", my first reaction is not "Golly, this person is an 31337 Ha><or". It's more like "Dang, what a tard! I wish he'd email someone else." Please write to me in English, ok?

The word your is used to indicate possession of something, as in "your crack pipe". When you mean "you are", you should use the contraction you're, as in "You're not very smart". Thank you for your support.

There. I feel better now, don't you? We now return you to the regularly scheduled game news. |
