There sure have been a lot of articles about Linux gaming popping up recently. Here's three more:

CNet has posted a Linux starter kit. It's a list of 20 apps that they consider essential. 4 of them are games. Saw this a linuxgames.com.

There's a good article about game programming and free software and whether they mix well at LinuxToday.

Finally, CNN Interactive is running an overview of the state of Linux games. Spotted this one on the LDGC mailing list.

Description: This is a server-only port of the 3D-shooter game Kingpin.
Says Fyan Feltrin, of Xatrix Entertainment:

The Linux Kingpin dedicated server is now available.

This is considered a BETA release, although it may not be marked as such, we have only tested it for about 16
hours on a half-dozen servers.

There are currently two packages available.

Dedicated server PACK. This includes all maps and player models required to run a dedicated server only. (10.5mb)

Intel386 Linux glibc 2.0.7 binaries.(0.5mb)

Make sure to read the kp_linux_readme.txt for installation and usage notes.

Please report any bugs to me asap. I'm new to Linux development, so be as informative as possible with any reports.

As with the Half-Life server, I'm underwhelmed by this release. Give us something we can play guys. I'm not exactly messing my pants over the opportunity to dedicate my server's cycles to a game that I can't play myself...

Description: A Nintendo emulator for Linux.
(note! if you are having problems with
the program, read the web page and the
faq linked off the page. It does not
work out of the box for quite a few
distributions.)
Unfortunatly, the source code is not
avalible for this program, so it is not yet
the most elegant solution.

Description: A 3D multiplayer space shoot-em-up

There's been some movement over at the Aegis Simulation Technologies news page recently. There are two chewy bits I thought I'd share with you:

In conjunction with a new business arrangement, we recompiled BFRIS for redhat Linux 6.0. We'll be releasing demo and retail versions of Redhat 6 (glibc2.1) binaries sometime next week. With the additional freaky-named libstdc++ library that Redhat uses, these binaries also run correctly on Stampede, Caldera, and Debian glibc2.1 systems.

Linux BFRIS now runs just fine with NVIDIA Riva TNT/128 and Matrox G200 cards running the experimental/in-development Mesa drivers.
...
Linux BFRIS also runs fine with the latest Mesa CVS drivers and Voodoo Banshee/Voodoo3.

Description: GSnes9x is a GNOME front-end for the
Snes9X SNES simulator. It allows you
to set and preserve the options for a
particular ROM when running it, and to
setglobal options for new ROMs being
included.

You need Snes9X (I use 1.19 for Linux)
and a working GNOME environment for
GSnes9x. It is also recommended to
have a few ROMs :)
