| 4308 | Core Wars | games | -1 | Core Wars | Note that first of all, these guys did not invent Core Wars - so you don't need to compliment them on the idea. Second of all, knowing assembly is not neccessary or particularly useful, since Core Wars assembly is very limited (only 9 instructions) and is quite different from most modern platform assemblies. Most importantly, the concepts used in Core Wars are very different from normal programming concepts in that self-modifying code is extremely rare. Core Wars is not a simulation unless you are simply running another's program - the writing of a program and testing it against some other program is the game. Clearly, unlike arcade style games, this is a thinking game where speed and reflexes are not required. Nonetheless it is still a game. Documentation of the instructions is not sparse, as Core Wars is very common. | 2001-11-01 13:35:01 | 0 |

| 4311 | xscorch | games | -1 | xscorch | It was the game Scorched Earth that kept us sane while stationed over in Korea. Nothing like playing a good round of Scorched Earth while drinking Soju. Now that I'm a Linux geek, Xscorch fills the gaming void that I had when leaving Windows. | 2001-11-02 09:32:18 | 0 |
