GA-Source is running an excellent interview with Dave Taylor, the patron saint of Linux gaming. Mr. Taylor, formerly of id Software, was responsible for the original Linux port of Doom in 1995. He went on to found Crack dot Com, which released Abuse, a sophisticated side-scroller for Linux and other platforms (and the first commercial, boxed game for Linux). Crack folded before they finished their next game, Golgotha, but being incredibly cool, they released the source into the public domain so that others could take a stab at it. Dave Taylor now works for Transmeta the secretive startup that also employs Linus Torvalds.

Anyway, ddt is The Man and I want to be him. Go read the interview. It's good stuff. Saw this at Blue's News.

No, really. Get over there and read the damn interview. I'm not gonna say it again. |

BZ: Suddenly it looks like there won't be any shortage of driving games for Linux, what with this game, XRacer and Millenium Madness:Roads of Destruction all under development. Now who's going to create the persistent world server that ties these driving games together with the Flight Gear Flight sim and Crystal Space games? :-)

Chris 'schnoz' Zeeb wrote me with news of a petition asking Dynamix to create a Linux client port of Tribes2. The idea is to show Dynamix that there's enough demand to warrant a Linux client. As of this writing, 262 people have signed the petition. If you think this is a worthy cause, head over there and add your name to the list. |

No more messy compiling!
Erling Jacobsen has created RPM and SRPM packages for Abuse and Heretic. This should make installing these classics a whole lot simpler for those with distributions that use the RPM package format.

You can grab the packages from ftp://tux.context.dk/pub/linux/games if you're so inclined.
