| 4068 | Racer | games | -1 | Racer | This is a silly discussion. Face it, the author has the right to do what he wants with the code. Boycotting isn't going to get you anywhere, so what is the point? On the other hand if someone feels strongly about GPL then it's ok to promote it....in a respectful way. A possible comprimise that might work is to split the racer into two projects, the racerlib engine and the rest of the code. That way it'd be possible for the author of the engine to retain the right to sell it. And contributors can build interfaces, cars, and tracks under GPL. AI could be part of the engine or not, or the author could write AI for his engine while still providing an API to the physics library. Finally, there would be nothing to prevent someone starting their own GPL'd project as long as the author of racerlib agreed to continue seperately distributing a free physics library which could be dynamically linked to. As an aside, binary distributions without source code must in some way (usually with at least some static linking) make it easier for people to install and run. With major revisions coming from the gcc project, it will be impossible for a single binary to work for all Linux users, if entirely dynamically linked. Dynamic links that become necessary should not specify subversions of libraries but instead reference the standard symlinks, for example it is much better to link to libSDL.so rather than libSDL-1.1.so, if any SDL version should work. The reason is that when a user is forced to create an invalid "simlink" it will create havok with applications that by necessity require a specific version. | 2001-08-28 09:00:08 | 0 |
| 4069 | Chromium B.S.U. | games | 5158 | Chromium B.S.U. | Great adrenaline rush. I only say 4 stars because of the lack of variety. But c'mon guys, it's really not <em>that</em> hard. I made it to the end of level 3 the first time I played, with the default settings. Probably because I didn't have that damn music playing then. After about 7 more tries, I'm now struggling with level 8. Just remember that your ammo is often more important than your ship, and both are less important than stopping anyone from getting through. | 2001-08-28 10:02:38 | 0 |
