348 2 1999-05-31 14:12:39 In a followup to their previous poll, Sierra's new poll asks What upcoming Studios game would you like to see ported to Linux? The choices are TeamFortress 2, Pharoh, Homeworld, Gabriel Knight 3 and Babylon 5. Go tell 'em what you want.
Gosh, I haven't heard of most of these. A TF2 client port would get me pretty excited though. Let's hope that someone at Sierra besides the webmaster is listening to this demand for Linux games. Thanks, Duncan Rowland. New Sierra poll default
349 2 1999-05-31 15:26:49 Okay, so this isn't really all that important, but not knowing is bugging the heck out of me. Today a lot of people are coming to the Game Tome via this article about Heretic at linuxtoday.com. There's nothing wrong with that, except the story was posted way back on April 3! Why all the attention now? If anyone has a clue about this, I'd love to hear about it. Otherwise I'm not gonna get any sleep tonight, I just know it. OFF TOPIC: What gives? default

351 2 1999-06-02 10:12:26 Beta testing for Loki Software's upcoming Linux port of Myth II: Soulblighter will begin very soon. Loki will pick 50 beta testers from the list of applicants who didn't get chosen for the Civ:CTP beta. Additionally, they'll hand pick 10 CTP beta testers who gave great input during that test.
Also, Natas's Linux Myth II web page is online here, with message boards for each of the current and planned Loki ports. 353 2 1999-06-02 17:02:01 NVidia has released X and GLX drivers for Linux in both source (!!) and binary forms. The files are avaialble here. The X server supports the NVIDIA NV1, RIVA 128, RIVA128ZX, RIVA TNT and RIVA TNT2 chipsets. 3D support is for RIVA 128, RIVA 128ZX, RIVA TNT, RIVA TNT2.
There's a FAQ available here. Here's a bit from the FAQ about the source licenses:
The source code is being released with two different license agreements. The GLX module and the RIVA source files have the same license as the XFree86 organization's license. That is, you are free to include those files in a commercial product without having to redistribute the source. The Mesa 3.0 code is GPLed. Mesa 3.1 for the X window system will use the XFree86 style license.
Sweet Mary, Mother of God, I think NVidia has managed to do the Right Thing here. Wow.
The first person to send me detailed, step-by-step instructions for making Quake, Quake II and Q3Test work with these drivers gets a copies of Quake: The Offering and Quake II: Colossus for Linux. Eh warns that the numbers are unscientific and to be taken with a grain of salt, but this is as good an overview as we've got right now.
