There are two new features up at The Linux Game Development Center that will be of interest to novice or wanna-be game programmers: How To Start A New Game Project, sort of a checklist for getting started, and XShipWars Development On Linux/X, a blow-by-blow accounting of the development of the XShipwars game. |

Description: A Quake3 server browser for X.

Changelog: This new version will save new master servers when they are added to the list. Also, there has been some major restructuring of the code thanks to Jidar. You will probably notice that the download site is different now, this is because linuxquake.com has generously offered me use of their ftp. One last thing about this build, I found and corrected a bug which would not allow some people to use their mouse when a game was launched from X11Spy.

Happypenguin.org has acquired some copies of the recently released Quake: The Offering and Quake II: Colossus for Linux. As you know, I love you all a great deal. In an attempt to express this love, I'm going to give away one game every Friday for the entire month of June.

If you want a chance to receive some of this love, read on: The screenshot for one of the games listed in the Tome has been replaced with a picture of a turnip like the one on the right (Lynx users: the ALT text for the image simply reads "turnip", rather than "screenshot for xxx"). Find the turnip, click on it, and you'll be presented with a contest entry form. Submit the form and you're entered in the next drawing! Each Friday in June, I'll award a copy of either The Offering or Colossus to an entry that I select at random. After a winner is selected, I'll delete the rest of the entries, hide the turnip someplace else, and the contest will begin again. If I draw your name and then discover from my server logs that you did something really dorky like grab my whole site with wget, I'll cheerfully toss out your entry and select another. So there.

The first prize will be awarded on Friday, June 4. It will be a copy of Quake: The Offering for Linux.

Now go find that turnip! |
