2577 2 2002-06-11 17:45:20 Bioware announced today that their much-anticipated multiplayer RPG Neverwinter Nights has gone gold and will ship to retailers before the end of June.
Unfortunately, the press release also states that despite promises to the contrary, there will not be a Linux version included in the retail package. Instead, a Linux server will be made available for download "at launch" and a Linux client will follow "shortly afterward".
If "simultaneous PC/Macintosh/Linux release for Neverwinter Nights, with all three versions to be included in a single box" translates to "Linux version when we can get to it", I wonder what "shortly" means? NWN will ship without Linux version default

2579 3 2002-06-13 16:15:38 Nvidia has released a new programming language called Cg, the C for Graphics, which is supposed to facilitate and speed up the development of vertex and pixel shader effects for computer games.
Extract from Nvidia's announcement:

Today's software applications are, by and large, developed with a programming language called "C" or "C++." However, when it comes to creating complex visual effects, developers have had to use a highly restrictive assembly language. The Cg programming language—"C" for graphics—gives developers a major leap forward in ease and speed of programming the special effects that enable real-time cinematic-quality graphics experiences on the desktop. Programs no longer need to be written directly to the graphics hardware, enabling rapid development of stunning, real-time shaders and visual effects for both DirectX® and OpenGL® environments.

The interesting part can be found in the Cg FAQ:
What platforms does NVIDIA’s Cg Compiler support?

1. Windows (DirectX 8, DirectX 9, OpenGL)
2. Linux (OpenGL)
3. Mac OS X (OpenGL - ARB_vertex_program support, upon ARB ratification)
4. Xbox (through offline compilation of DirectX 8 Vertex and Pixel Shaders)

Nvidia releases Cg: C for Graphics default
