242 2 1999-04-24 18:56:01 Michael "Mad Dog" Stoia announced today that he's looking for someone to take over maintenance duties at the venerable Linux Quake Page. Mad Dog was the first to put together a central repository for information on Quake for Linux. I know his site helped me out a lot the first time I tried to make Quake go on my Linux system. So long, Mad Dog, and good luck. Anyone interested in picking up the reins should contact Mad Dog. Linux Quake page seeks new maintainer default

244 2 1999-04-26 13:40:53 Saw on Slashdot that NVidia will soon announce "full X and 3D support under Linux" for their TNT2 chipset. This is good noise, but does it mean anything, or is it lip service to the Linux fad? Why do they have to announce that they're going to announce something? Why not just hand out specs and maybe the source for a reference driver? This may be a Good Thing, but based on their sketchy history (*cough* obfuscating the source for the Riva X server, *cough* not releasing specs for previous chipsets), it smells more like a "look! we're on the bandwagon, too!" marketing stunt. A binary-only driver release != Linux support in my mind. But then I'm cranky and cynical on the best of days. I'm not gonna run out and buy a TNT2 card just yet, though. Split screen playing is know possible, press the 's' button while playing. It is not very usefull at the moment, but it could become handy at a later time where there will be two player modes. All pingu actions are now painted, but they still need some AI. This version *won't* compile with ClanLib 0.1.14, it will only compile with the CVS version or the upcoming 0.1.15. 248 2 1999-04-26 15:33:27 Loki Software president Scott Draeker sent in word of a website update which gives details about Civ:CTP's ship date and distribution plans. Here's part of the post:
The Linux version of Civilization: Call to Power will ship during the week of May 3. We delayed shipment by a week so that we could integrate Activision's first patch for the game. Among other things, the patch fixes bugs, provides some UI enhancements and provides network compatibility between the Linux and Windows versions.
We have entered into distribution agreements covering the US, Canada, Europe, Australia and Japan. Setting up distribution has taken longer than we hoped -- this is a ground breaking product after all. But we are confident that the distributors we have chosen will work quickly to get Civ:CTP and our upcoming products into the stores where people buy software.
Civ:CTP release details default

Set in the future, as players, you will be able to fly between star systems, and planets, trade cheese in remote stations, and destroy enemy clans in a single bound!
Currently we have the internet engine working, along with most of the in flight control mechanisms going. We have missile and mine launching, but no collision detection. We are looking at making the flight model work better, and making sure the server usage doesn't go sky high.
