| 2502 | Red Pixel | games | 2642 | Red Pixel | Some nice special effects, and a nice premise... but no internet play? And how come it says "serial or LAN play" and yet it says "no ethernet"... ethernet IS LAN. And shouldn't socks work over the net? | 2000-06-04 14:29:51 | 0 |
| 2503 | Do'SSi Zo'la | games | 994 | Do'SSi Zo'la |
The graphics are very nicely rendered, and they run smoothly on a 100 MHz machine. These things I like, though it takes its toll on the disk space. But I do not find the game play itself interesting enough to keep it for very long.

They say this is their first linux software, and I look forward to seeing what else they release in the future.
| 2000-06-04 14:33:43 | 0 |
| 2504 | Red Pixel | games | -1 | Red Pixel | The `no ethernet' comment was probably left over from some old documentation. However, supporting socks is not enough to achieve internet play: you have to account for lag, packet errors, etc. The LAN support was basically a quick hack to emulate a serial connection over socks. So while technically it will work over the internet, it will be excrutiatingly slow. BTW, thanks for playing.
-- Peter (whose login wasn't working) | 2000-06-04 20:36:48 | 0 |

| 2506 | Tux Racer | games | 3400 | Tux Racer | Great fun! Its already a good playable game. Addition of sounds, a timer, and maybe some opposition will turn it into a finished article. I get good framerates with a Voodoo3 1000 (its a V3 with only 8Mb) and a K6/2-333. I installed it with Xfree86 version 4 from the Redhat Rawhide rpms, and than added Glide, tdfx_dri.so and tdfx.o from the 3dfx packages. | 2000-06-05 04:57:11 | 0 |

| 2509 | D2X | games | 2248 | D2X | I have never been so happy to have the tar beaten out of me in Level 1 of Vertigo! (It's been a while since I rebooted) The game compiled cleanly the first time and runs as well if not faster than D1X on low-end hardware (P166MMX, 32 MB w/4MB ATI RageII+DVD). I'd give it 4 3/4 stars because I miss the other graphics targets; ggi and SVGALIB. OpenGL (Mesa) didn't even compile for me. Minor inconveniences, I can't believe I'm playing my favorite game on Linux!!! Somebody please maintain this game! | 2000-06-06 16:39:47 | 0 |
