Linux games could be still played in textmode, the support for graphics and sound in LOSER rules. It is the best open source game that I have yet I run into that runs without much trouble (add. libraries and stuff) and consists of useable building blocks (AFAIK, haven't peeked at the code yet). Heck, I think that if I would start writing a 2D game, I'd derive it from this one. Point.
