An enhanced engine for Rise of the Triad |
<b>Rise of the Triad for Linux</b> is an improved engine for the 1995 shooter, from source code released by <a href="http://www.3drealms.com/">3D Realms</a>. The game engine is free, but you need datafiles from the shareware or full commercial version of Rise of the Triad to play.
<p>
The Story:<br />
You are part of an elite group of operatives called HUNT (High-risk United Nations Taskforce), and you must stop a maniac cult leader from killing millions of people. While scouting a remote island, you are suddenly surrounded by enemy troops with guns blaring. In the distance you see your boat--your only chance to escape--explode into matchsticks. In front of you is a huge fortress monastery, and your only chance to stop the madness. You are equipped with awesome, high-tech weaponry like heat-seeking missiles, split missiles, and the Flamewall cannon, which leaves a trail of charred skeletons in its wake. You will also find magical instruments and weapons so incredible they defy description.

RotTfL now supports most CPU architectures and can be played at higher resolutions. Network play is planned for version 2.0. |

Robohack is a Robotron clone created in ASCII with a look similar to nethack.

In Robohack you control a little @ and must defend it against Gs, while there are Ms that are waiting for your rescue and Hs that are trying to hunt down the Ms.
<p>
Your control happens via two directional controls, one is for walking around, the other one is for the direction of shooting, this allows you to walk backward while shooting forward.

<p>Robombs is a 3D multiplayer LAN game inspired by Bomberman/Dynablaster. The goal is to place bombs and blast away all enemies before they'll blast away you. You can destroy crates and collect items to increase your powers.
<p>The game comes with 12 levels included (more to come) which are mostly based on other games (you'll see...).
<p>It requires an OpenGL compatible 3D accelerator and runs under Linux, Windows, Mac OSX and Solaris. It's written in Java and you can either download it or run it via Java Webstart. |
