Quake II compatible game engine optimized for speed |
<p>Quetoo is a Quake II compatible game engine for Linux and FreeBSD. Its focus is simplicity, security, stability, and speed. It contains critical security updates for both clients and servers, bandwidth saving network protocol enhancements, an improved console, and some major speed increases. Quetoo is up to 140% faster than stock Quake II.
<p />
If you're looking for visual effect updates and gimmick features, run something else. However, perhaps these things sound good to you:
<ul>
<li>Dramatic performance increases through proper removal of dynamic lighting, polyblend and other "candy" features.</li>
<li>Integrated video refresh and renderer core simplifies program design and execution.</li>
<li>R1Q2 Protocol 35 support and Quetoo-specific protocol extensions to save bandwidth.</li>
<li>Support for asynchronous video/sound/input and network framing: run at 90 fps over a dialup connection.</li>
<li>High color Targa (.tga) image support for all game media.</li>
<li>Location (.loc) file support for alerting team members to your position.</li>
<li>Mono (white) lightmap interpolation mode for neutral (non-colored) lighting.</li>
<li>Bright player skins supported directly within the engine.</li>
<li>Ability to disable ambient sounds and load wildcard pakfiles (*.pak).</li>
<li>Vastly improved console with Bash-style tab completion, positioned editing, mwheel scrolling, etc.</li>
<li>Optional deathmatch mod with MySQL frag logging and team play.</li>
<li>GNU Autoconf/Automake build scripts and pure C source compiles cleanly with modern GCC.</li>

This is a one player boardgame for Linux/KDE3 |
A bit similar to Tetris in this game you have to keep a game board free, fighting against new pieces appearing every move and clutter the board. You remove pieces by aligning pieces of the same colour in a row, column or diagonal. If you have aligned enough pieces (default: 5) they will vanish making more room on the board. To achieve this you can move any pieces to any location on the board which can be reached by moving the piece on a connected path horizontally or vertically or both. However, for each piece you move new pieces will drop onto the board (default: 3). Only if you manage to align enough pieces so that they vanish no new pieces will appear. You also have a joker piece which can be aligned with any colour. |

R-aTTaCk is a Tetris-attack© like, but with more option. |
R-aTTaCk is a Tetris attack©-like game, but with more options. To win you must remove boxes; to achieve this, you must draw lines (of 3 or more boxes). When you remove a special box, a special action is being made, in order to help you or not; your goal: achieve the best score! Each type of boxes has different points, if you make more than 60 points in one move you win a block. In order to reduce a block, you must destroy a box by touching it. The combos: when you remove more than 3 boxes you win 10 points for all additional boxes, the game writes "4n", "5n", ... the serial combo writes "x2", "x3" and more when the consequences of a deletion produces other deletions, the points are multiplied by the level of this combo. The blocks: they provide option in order to bother you. When you have it, it's more difficult to do you work: remove more and more boxes; so you can delete it. |

The game rules (called skin) are written in Itcl (incrTcl), an object-oriented scripting language.
The C++ core program defines a generic object class and Itcl objects inherit from it to define elements of then game.
<p>
The other main parts of the core program are:
<ul>
<li>network: stack of protocol than uses simultaneous TCP and UDP
<li>gui: light and nice gui toolkit
<li>sprite: an animated sprite render toolkit

R1Q2 is an enhanced Quake II engine |
R1Q2 is an enhanced client/server for Quake II. Based on the id Software 3.21 source, rather than concentrate on fancy graphics, embedded MP3 players and other "gimmick" features, R1Q2 is focused on providing stability, security and speed whilst remaining fully compatible with existing mods and other clients.
<p>
The main features are security fixes, stability improvements, new server-side netcode management, HTTP downloads, speed increases, separation of renderer and network, full 3.20 compatibility, highly configurable server, improved server-side anti-cheat measures and hundreds of other small fixes, improvements, speedups.
</p>
The source code needs some convincing to compile and the sound is kind of munged since he cba to actively support Linux. |
