Abuse games 281 Abuse i love "classic" 2d action shooters/jump'n run games. 1998-12-04 10:38:25 0
Boulder Dash games 79 Boulder Dash I played it some time ago. It's not bad, it only looks like made for the C=64. 1998-12-04 12:58:05 0
xskat games 284 xskat A nice game, but it should use a widget library like GTK. Maybe a description how to play skat would be a good idea. 1998-12-04 14:05:25 0
XSnow games 284 XSnow Great idea, but the graphics don't look very good. 1998-12-04 14:14:46 0
Inner Worlds games 285 Inner Worlds A number of problems: (1) Linux was used to develop this game; it deserves better support. Absolutely no mention of Linux exists on their current web page. Even the Linux tarball is hidden; you have to log directly into their ftp server to get it. Also, the tarball is for 1.2 when the latest version is 1.3. Is a registered version even available for Linux? (2) Under S.u.S.E Linux 5.3 I was unable to get past the intro screen (which looks very good, by the way) before being dumped back to the command prompt. Only possible error message I see is "Deinitializing card: 996". The Win95 version on the same hardware worked fine. Disabled sound and music; didn't help. Copied the iw.cfg from Win95 version to Linux; fixed sound but didn't fix the crashing. Also, the Linux version requires iw.cfg to be edited manually to set up the sound card, but doesn't provide any docs on how to do this. How do I know what the correct "sound_card_number" is? (3) The game itself is low-res VGA, only runs in console or MS-DOS mode, has hard-coded keys, and is closed-source. Why should I be excited about this? Compare it to a game like L.O.S.E.R., which is still in collaborative development, but is SVGA and allows complete customization because of its open source. 1998-12-04 15:49:26 0
Inner Worlds games 288 Inner Worlds This is a case where you need a zero star rating. The game starts with a very nice animated intro and then stops with a useless error message. SVGA reports a normal termination so I suspect the game is the problem. Pass this one up. 1998-12-05 01:55:32 0
Inner Worlds games 2 Inner Worlds With the help of strace, I was able to determine that the game crashes because it's trying to load a non-existant sound file. By copying s_swoosh.bin to s_whoosh.bin, I got the game to run. After all that trouble, I wanted it to suck, but it's actually a decent side-scroller. I wouldn't pay 22 bucks to register it, but this is an ok, exactly middle-of-the-road game. There's plenty better out there, though. Check out Abuse or the L.O.S.E.R. Corps if you're looking for some side-scroller actoin. 1998-12-05 04:02:26 0
XSokoban games 289 XSokoban Great remake of the original game. Challenging, especially with the web-based scoring board. 1998-12-05 04:42:40 0
Inner Worlds games 290 Inner Worlds A decent game, I think. Nothing revolutionary, but it has its good moments. I liked the morphing idea, but that may be just my opinion... Oh, by the way, this game has surprisingly good music - I liked the unplugged.mod. 1998-12-05 08:45:32 0
